IPL 2025: Three teams that could be in the hunt for Glenn Maxwell at Auction

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was far from being impressive in the IPL 2024 edition. He neither lacked the killer instinct to score runs nor had the mettle to take key wickets in the last season. The senior pro endured the worst-ever campaign as he scored just 52 runs in 10 appearances at an average of 5.78.

On the contrary, he took six wickets but conceded runs and had an economy of more than 8. His poor form suggests that he might as well be released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Recently, he even unfollowed RCB on Instagram, which further fueled the speculations of his transfer rumour and it's highly likely that RCB won't show interest in retaining him as well.

However, given his experience and credentials in the shortest format, teams will look to target him in the Mega Auction. Let's take a look at the three teams that could show a great deal of interest in signing Glenn Maxwell at the auction.

1. Chennai Super Kings: The five-time IPL champions value experienced, multi-faceted players who can deliver the goods across departments and Glenn Maxwell's credentials align well with their philosophy. He could be of great use to CSK in the batting and the bowling department. His handy off-spin could prove to be a valuable weapon, particularly on the spin-friendly pitches at Chepauk.

2. Rajasthan Royals: The inaugural IPL champions would certainly love to invest in a three-dimensional player like Glenn Maxwell, since he has the potential to change the complexion of the game single-handedly. The Royals will be tempted by the fact Maxwell can fire all the cylinders in batting, bowling and fielding. If he could slot into the middle order, he can deliver power hitting, while also providing support to their spin attack alongside Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin.

3. Punjab Kings: The Aussie was closely associated with the Mohali-based franchise for five seasons. He represented the franchise from 2014 to 2017 before he was released by the franchise. After that, he made a comeback to the franchise in the IPL 2020 season. PBKS are in the hunt for match-winning all-rounders and it is highly likely that they might look to bring him back again.
