Jaipur, Apr 28: On a night when records tumbled and history was rewritten, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi announced his arrival to the world in true fashion with a breathtaking century for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 on Monday (April 28).

In a fearless display of batting brilliance, the left-handed prodigy from Bihar smashed a 35-ball ton, becoming the youngest cricketer ever to score a century in the IPL - and T20 cricket history.

Walking out to chase a daunting 210-run target with his partner Yashasvi Jaiswal, few could have anticipated the fireworks that were about to unfold. But the teenager, exuding the calm of a seasoned pro, tore into the Titans' well-rounded bowling attack with a performance that oozed audacity and genius in equal measure.

In his knock of 101 runs off 36 balls, Suryavanshi plundered an astounding 94 runs in boundaries alone - smashing 7 fours and 11 monstrous sixes.

His whirlwind knock matched Murali Vijay's record for the most sixes by an Indian batter in an IPL innings (11), a record that had stood since 2010. More astonishingly, he shattered Yusuf Pathan's long-standing record of the fastest IPL century by an Indian, achieving the feat in just 35 balls - two deliveries quicker than Pathan's 2010 effort against Mumbai Indians.

Pathan - whose record of 37-ball hundred was created before even Suryavanshi was born - took to his handle on X, formerly known as Twitter, to congratulate the youngster for leapfrogging his milestone.

Pathan - who is now a Parliamentarian from West Bengal, posted on X, "Many congratulations to young #VaibhavSuryavanshi for breaking my record of the fastest @IPL hundred by an Indian! Even more special to see it happen while playing for @rajasthanroyals, just like I did. There's truly something magical about this franchise for youngsters. Long way to go, champ!"

Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan, another titan in the IPL, also doffed his hat to the boy-wonder from Bihar and wrote on X, "What a fiery show by RR today! Special knock by young #VaibhavSuryavanshi, fastest IPL hundred by an Indian, that too at just 14! @ybj_19 incredible 70 off 40, your opening partnership was something magical too watch. GT, you're right up there this season, keep going strong!"

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar - who has been inarguably one of the most technically sound batters of all time - also became a fan of Vaibhav's solid technique and posted on X, "Vaibhav's fearless approach, bat speed, picking the length early, and transferring the energy behind the ball was the recipe behind a fabulous innings. End result: 101 runs off 38 balls. Well played!!"

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was awestruck by Vaibhav's brilliance and hailed the fellow southpaw's explosive innings and taking on a world-class bowling lineup. The legendary India cricketer posted on X, "What were you doing at 14?!! This kid is taking on the best bowlers in the world without blinking an eyelid! Vaibhav Suryavanshi - remember the name! Playing with a fearless attitude 🔥 Proud to see the next generation shine!"

India's T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav also hailed the teenager for his performance and posted on X, "Witnessed this carnage of an innings by this youngster. Absolutely insane!"

Meanwhile, India captain Rohit Sharma posted an image of Suryavanshi as a story on his Instagram handle and dubbed it as 'class'.

Earlier, Suryavanshi had already made headlines by becoming the youngest player to register an IPL fifty, but this historic century elevated his meteoric rise to a whole new level.

A Night of Carnage and Composure

It wasn't just the volume of runs, but the sheer style with which Suryavanshi dismantled the opposition that captured imaginations. The highlight of the night came against veteran pacer Ishant Sharma - a man who made his IPL debut years before Vaibhav was even born. With fearless precision, Suryavanshi hammered 26 runs off one over from Sharma, treating the seasoned bowler with nonchalant ease.

The onslaught continued against debutant Afghan pacer Karim Janat, whose very first over in the IPL was ruthlessly dispatched for 30 runs - the most expensive first over bowled by any player in IPL history. The previous record belonged to Varun Chakravarthy, who had conceded 25 runs in 2019.

Off-spinner Washington Sundar too faced the brunt of the young star's wrath, as Suryavanshi showcased his full range with two more sixes and a couple of elegant boundaries.

The moment of the night arrived when Vaibhav, with the entire Jaipur crowd holding its breath, pulled Rashid Khan over deep midwicket to bring up his century. The stadium erupted, the stands turned pink in celebration, and even Rajasthan Royals' coach Rahul Dravid - injured and on crutches - leapt up in unbridled joy.

Breaking Records, Building Dreams

Riding on Suryavanshi's fireworks, Rajasthan Royals chased down the massive 210-run target in just 15.5 overs - the fastest successful run-chase of a 200-plus total in IPL history, measured by the fewest overs used.

Yashasvi Jaiswal provided excellent support, remaining unbeaten on 70 off 40 balls, while acting captain Riyan Parag chipped in with a quickfire 32* off 15 deliveries. Together, Suryavanshi and Jaiswal stitched a record 166-run partnership for any wicket for Rajasthan Royals, surpassing the previous best of 155 runs set by Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal in 2022.

But despite the team records, the night belonged solely to Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who was playing his third IPL game.

Cricket experts and legends could hardly believe their eyes, hailing the teenager as a once-in-a-generation talent. The composure, power, and fearlessness he displayed at just 14 hints at a future bursting with possibilities.
