IPL 2025: Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Arrival to RCB, KKR's Troubles - Five Strangest and Unique Things in the Indian Premier League So Far

The Indian Premier League 2025 is kissing its halfway stage and the whirlwind has been magnificent so far, as the ten teams huff and puff for the playoffs, and then the ultimate glory.

The tournament has seen some uncrowned challengers hovering around the summit places, while known giants are toiling hard to be amongst the leaders. Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings - teams with 13 titles amongst themselves, find themselves out of the top four currently.

IPL 2025

On the other hand, the top five places are currently (before April 20 matches) occupied by teams who have only 1 title to their name collectively. Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants are looking strong and are in the playoff places, while RCB are still very much in it. Gujarat Titans, who graced the title in its birth, are currently at the summit.

But don't be exhausted, there are some bigger, unique things which are taking place in the 18th season of IPL. As many people say, one undergoes massive changes after attaining maturity, and probably it is the same for IPL this season.

In this article, we shall take a look at some of the strangest pieces of stats and facts which so far have baffled the minds at the halfway stage.

KKR can't beat the ODDS

Kolkata Knight Riders, the defending champions, are in a muddle. They have been hot and cold quite perfectly, and cold in the odd number of matches. So far, the Knights have lost their 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th encounter, while winning their 2nd, 4th and 6th matches. Only KKR batters know how they managed to lose the last one (7th) against Punjab Kings, but it has helped to find this strange yet uniform anomaly. Will KKR continue in this alternative format? We shall get the answer on Monday as they meet Gujarat Titans.

RCB going berserk Away, but Numb at Home

For the Royal Challengers Bengaluru fans, it has been a decent season so far. They are placed 5th in the table, and currently have 8 points in their first seven matches. Virat Kohli has enriched RCB with a global and nationwide brand. We have seen RCB! RCB! chants across the venues this season, and the away fans of the team have been in elation, but not the home fans - reason? RCB have so far won all of their away encounters, and have lost their home ones.

In the first seven, Rajat Patidar and company have won their 4 away matches, while facing defeat in all three of their home matches. This unbelievably strange record is the first in the history of IPL.

Three Debutants, Three 3-Fers

In the IPL 2025, three debutants have picked up a three-for in their very first match. Vignesh Puthur and Ashwani Kumar of the Mumbai Indians did it, while Sunrisers Hyderabad's Zeeshan Ansari did the same for his team. Ashwani, in fact, went on and picked four in his debut.

Vignesh Puthur (MI) - 3/32 vs CSK
Zeeshan Ansari (SRH) - 3/42 vs DC
Ashwani Kumar (MI)- 4/24 vs KKR

The continuous evolution of IPL is commendable, and this fact showcases how the youth have embraced the biggest stage with open arms.

The Hat-Trick of Run Outs

Have you ever seen this? I bet no one has. Even in Gully cricket, after a Run Out, the respective team decides to run a bit cautiously. But Delhi Capitals forgot the basics and ran like helter skelter in a match against Mumbai Indians. And astonishingly, it ended with three consecutive run outs in three consecutive deliveries. Ashutosh Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav and then Mohit Sharma were the victims as the Capitals succumbed to a defeat, their first of the IPL 2025 season.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the History-Making Kid

Amid the cacophony of the big guns in IPL 2025, it is a teenager who has etched his name in the history books of IPL. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old from Bihar, made his debut in the IPL on April 19. The Rajasthan Royals youngster made his debut against Lucknow Super Giants. And how did he perform? If you think a teenager had jitters against the seasoned campaigners of the biggest franchise league, you can't be more wrong.

Vaibhav started with a Six in his very first ball! He ended up scoring 34 runs in just 20 deliveries, decorating his knock with 2 fours and three sixes.

It has been a rollercoaster of emotions in this IPL 2025. A few moments have dropped the jaw, while some have soothed the eye. As the chapter 18 continues to grow, expectation is that more such moments will emerge. As a cricket fan, no one is complaining, may the joyride continue!
