As Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) gears up for IPL 2025, franchise stalwart Virat Kohli has expressed full confidence in newly-appointed captain Rajat Patidar. Kohli, who led the team for over a decade and remains its most influential figure, believes Patidar has the qualities to guide RCB for a long time.
Speaking at RCB's Unbox event on Monday, Kohli urged fans to rally behind the new skipper. "This guy is going to lead you for a long time. He is going to do a great job. He has got everything that is required (to succeed)," said Kohli, addressing the passionate RCB supporters.

Patidar steps into the leadership role following Faf du Plessis' departure to Delhi Capitals. While Kohli was reportedly considered for a return as captain, he opted out, placing his trust in Patidar's leadership. The Madhya Pradesh batter has been a key performer for RCB in recent seasons and now faces the challenge of leading a franchise still in pursuit of its elusive maiden IPL title.
RCB fans remain hopeful of breaking their trophy drought, and Kohli shares that optimism. "It feels amazing to be back. The excitement and happiness is like every other season. I have been here for 18 years and absolutely love RCB. We have an amazing squad this time around. Lot of talent in the team. I am personally very excited about this season," he said.
This edition of the IPL will be special for Kohli as it marks his first campaign since retiring from T20 internationals. He will look to replicate his stellar form from IPL 2024, where he topped the tournament's run charts with 741 runs in 15 matches at an impressive average of 61.75.
Standing beside Kohli at the event, Patidar acknowledged the weight of the responsibility but embraced the challenge with enthusiasm. "Legends like Virat bhai, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle have played for RCB. I grew up watching them. From the start, I have loved the franchise a lot. I am more happy that I got a new role to lead one of the biggest teams (in T20 cricket)," said the RCB captain.
RCB begins its IPL 2025 campaign on March 22, facing defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. With a strong squad and Kohli's unwavering support for Patidar, fans will hope that this season finally brings the long-awaited title to Bengaluru.
