As the IPL 2025 playoffs kicked off with a high-stakes clash between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Mullanpur, the spotlight wasn't just on the players, but also on the fans.
One such fan, who drew plenty of attention, was Virat Kohli's doppelganger, Karan Kaushal. Hailing from Chandigarh but a die-hard RCB supporter, Karan was at the venue to back his team in Qualifier 1, brushing aside any notions of divided loyalty.

"Loyalty is not divided. I'm here only for RCB," Karan declared with pride. I think I'm watching the IPL for the first time in Chandigarh, and it's only because RCB is playing," he said.
The clash carried high stakes, not just for the teams vying for a direct entry to the final, but also for the Bengaluru franchise, whose wait for a maiden IPL title has stretched since the league's inception in 2008. Karan, echoing the emotions of countless loyal RCB fans, pointed out the emotional subtext to the campaign: "18 years, 18 number jersey, right? That's the highlight."
Royal Challengers last made it to the final in 2016, and with the 2025 season offering a golden opportunity to end the drought, the mood among fans has been intense. "I came specially from Gurgaon to watch the match," Karan said. "It's qualifier one-we want them to win, go to Ahmedabad, and lift the trophy."
While Virat Kohli's form has been exceptional this season, his performances in playoffs have often come under scrutiny. But Karan had a clear stance: "Virat is Virat. He knows how to play knockout games. I think he will do well."
Much of RCB's success this season has stemmed from a well-balanced squad and strong domestic performers. The Indian core, especially, has stepped up when it mattered most. The emergence of Jitesh Sharma and Rajat Patidar, who has led the side in the absence of regular leadership, has been noteworthy.
Reflecting on the team's previous outing, Karan praised Jitesh Sharma's heroics: "That was a once-in-a-lifetime knock. Chasing 230 isn't easy, and with Virat out early, hopes were low. But Jitesh delivered."
