IPL 2025: Virat Kohli trolled by Virender Sehwag for Dropped Catch of Dhruv Jurel during RR vs RCB

By MyKhel Staff

In an IPL 2025 moment that sent shockwaves across fans and pundits alike, Virat Kohli -- usually hailed for his fielding brilliance -- found himself at the center of brutal trolling after a surprising dropped catch during the Rajasthan Royals (RR) vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clash at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

The fumble, which came in the 17th over, allowed Dhruv Jurel to stay at the crease and earned the attention not only of fans but also of former India opener Virender Sehwag, who didn't hold back in the commentary box.

Virat Kohli, stationed at long-off, was in prime position to complete what seemed like a routine catch off Suyash Sharma's delivery. Dhruv Jurel had lofted the ball high, and with minimal ground to cover, Kohli reached under it comfortably.

However, as he bent down, the ball popped out of his hands the moment his knee hit the ground. What followed was an uncharacteristic show of frustration as the RCB stalwart hurled the ball back in anger, fully aware of the magnitude of his error.

But the real sting came moments later in the Hindi commentary box, where Sehwag, known for his blunt and cheeky remarks, took a dig at Kohli in classic fashion. When Devdutt Padikkal took a fine catch near the boundary a few overs later, Sehwag remarked, "Shukr hai Kohli nahi the waha," triggering laughter from his co-commentators and a flurry of reactions online. The line, simple yet sarcastic, quickly went viral as fans began amplifying the former batter's jab.

While English commentators praised Padikkal's fielding effort as a vital six-saving moment, Sehwag's Hindi commentary was what caught fire on social media. Another instance of Sehwag's trolling came when Kohli fumbled another effort off Jurel, prompting fans to say Sehwag was "cooking Kohli" live on air. His light-hearted roast was perceived by many as the perfect blend of humour and cricketing candour.

Following Sehwag's on-air jibe, fans on X (formerly Twitter) took over with a series of harsh - and sometimes humorous - takedowns of Kohli. One user simply labelled him "overrated as a fielder," while another sarcastically questioned why RCB paid ₹21 crore for a player who "can't field, can't bat, can't bowl."

The memes and posts didn't stop there. Clips of the dropped catch were reshared with captions like "Rare video of Kohli dropping a sitter" and "Even VIRAT KOHLI dropped a simple catch," underlining the sheer disbelief of fans witnessing such an uncharacteristic error.

Some fans criticized the overall fielding standards in this IPL season, suggesting Kohli's lapse reflected a broader dip in quality. Yet, others used humor to vent their frustrations, calling him "Chokli" - a dig that's resurfaced often during high-pressure moments involving Kohli.

Despite Kohli's reputation as one of India's fittest cricketers and an electric presence in the field, this one slip - magnified by Sehwag's wit - became one of the talking points of the match, proving once again how unforgiving the IPL spotlight can be, even for legends.
