IPL 2025: In a pulsating clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) edged past arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by just two runs, tightening their grip on a playoff berth in this year's IPL.
While the nail-biting finish, capped off by Yash Dayal's nerveless final over, kept fans on edge, it was Virat Kohli's scintillating knock at the top that once again underscored why he remains the gold standard of consistency in T20 cricket.

Asked to bat first, RCB got off to a flyer, courtesy of a 97-run opening stand between Kohli and young English all-rounder Jacob Bethell. Bethell's aggressive 55 off 33 provided early momentum, but it was Kohli's sublime 62 from just 33 deliveries that truly set the tone for the innings.
Commanding from the outset, Kohli's innings was a blend of elegance and dominance, marked by crisp strokes and calculated aggression that took RCB to 121/2 by the time he was dismissed by Matheesha Pathirana.
Even as CSK fought back with timely wickets, bringing RCB down to 157/5 after 18 overs, Romario Shepherd unleashed carnage at the death. His unbeaten 53 off 14 balls, at a strike rate of 378.57, lifted the hosts to a daunting 213/5.
In reply, CSK came within touching distance of an incredible chase, powered by Ayush Mhatre's blistering 94 and Ravindra Jadeja's composed unbeaten 77. But with 15 needed off the final over, Dayal held his nerve, dismissing MS Dhoni and delivering three tight deliveries to secure a dramatic win for RCB.
While the result has virtually sealed RCB's playoff spot and left CSK officially out of contention, the night once again belonged to Virat Kohli. His innings was yet another reminder of his enduring class and unshakeable resolve - qualities that continue to draw admiration from cricketing pundits across the board.
Aakash Chopra, speaking on Kohli's form, encapsulated the sentiment best:
"You just have to keep praising because that's what this man does season after season after season. The fact is that he's not actually competing with anybody else. When you reach this stage of your career, you're just trying to outdo yourself and add more arrows to your quiver''.
''You want to keep uplifting your game because what other way is there to motivate yourself? Unless you're so passionate to be a little better every day, that's where you keep breaking records. Eventually, it's all about the ball hitting the bat-the joy that you get while hitting the pull, the drive, dominating the bowling attack. Contributing to the team's win-that's the only thing that you play for. Inner happiness is the yardstick for him. There's no other joy better than being at the top of your game and helping your team win."
In a season where he's once again leading by example, Kohli's hunger to improve and perform for his side reflects not just his passion for the game, but his deeper desire to keep evolving - even when he's already at the top.
