After the de-escalation of the India-Pakistan border tensions, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking for resumption of the IPL 2025 season as soon as possible.
After the recent military action between the two countries, IPL took a halt for a week. BCCI announced on Friday (May 9) that the tournament will be suspended for a week, which was prompted by the India-Pakistan issues.

On May 8, the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala was also called off for security reasons.
But since Saturday (May 10), things have de-escalated in the border. Both India and Pakistan agreed on a ceasefire from 5 pm IST on Saturday. Although Pakistan still breached the ceasefire and pulled off drone attacks again, things have been mostly peaceful from late night till now. The border towns are also returning to the normal life and blackouts have been revoked.
Amid this, BCCI is looking to conduct the remainder of the IPL as soon as possible. The board will be facing a huge loss of Rs 2000 crore if the IPL remains halted, and that is a major reason why they are planning to conduct the final part quickly.
There have been reports of BCCI's will and blueprint to safely conduct the tournament, and the apex body of Indian cricket has taken four steps. Following a temporary suspension and a ceasefire now in effect, the BCCI is coordinating with stakeholders to ensure the safe and timely continuation of the tournament.
To mitigate security risks, the BCCI is considering relocating matches from sensitive areas like Dharamsala to more secure venues. This strategic move aims to ensure player safety and logistical feasibility. As per reports - Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru are being considered as the venues which can conduct all the matches. With the playoffs originally scheduled in Hyderabad and Kolkata, this would significantly curb the logistical issues.
The BCCI is in consultation with the Indian government to obtain necessary clearances and support for the resumption of the league. This collaboration is crucial to align the tournament's operations with national security protocols. With 16 matches left, an adept measurement of security is imperative.
Franchises have initiated the process of recalling international players who had returned home during the suspension. The BCCI is facilitating these efforts to ensure full team rosters are available for the remaining matches. Although some of them just left the country on Saturday, they may have to return very soon. It is still unclear if the foreigners will be willing to arrive in India again, but the attempts remain from the teams.
It is likely that the teams such as Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad may continue without their foreigners as they are already eliminated from IPL 2025.
To accommodate the remaining fixtures within the available timeframe, the BCCI is exploring the possibility of scheduling additional double-headers. This approach aims to complete the tournament without compromising the quality of play. The concern of losing foreign players if the tournament goes beyond its original schedule may prompt the BCCI to conduct double headers in the final week of the IPL 2025. We may also witness consecutive matches during the playoffs, which generally have a week's window.
