The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have secured a top-two finish in the IPL league stage for the third time in their history, after doing so previously in 2011 and 2016.
This achievement provides a huge advantage in the playoffs, giving them two opportunities to reach the final. However, history shows that while they have made it to the summit clash each time, the title has always slipped away.

In IPL 2025, RCB concluded the league phase with 19 points from 14 matches, equal to table-toppers Punjab Kings but behind on net run rate. Their final league game saw them chase down 228 against Lucknow Super Giants, a result that not only showcased their batting prowess but also confirmed their berth in Qualifier 1. This performance sets them up with a direct shot at the final and a safety net in case of defeat.
Although RCB have reached in the final twicem they are yet to lift the IPL title. The fans will be eager to end the elusive wait this time around.
In 2011, led by Daniel Vettori and powered by the explosive Chris Gayle, RCB topped the league table. Gayle dominated the season with over 600 runs and was instrumental in their success.
Under Virat Kohli's captaincy, RCB finished second in the standings. Kohli delivered a record-shattering season with 973 runs—the highest in a single IPL edition.
RCB’s top-two finishes have historically ensured a place in the final, but the trophy has remained out of reach. As they enter the 2025 playoffs with momentum and a balanced squad, there is hope that this could finally be the year they break the jinx and lift the IPL trophy.
