IPL 2025: What was the turning point of Gujarat Titans' 58-run win over Rajasthan Royals?

By MyKhel Staff

GT vs RR: In a high-octane IPL 2025 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Titans (GT) outplayed Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 58 runs to register their fourth straight victory and rise to the top of the points table.

While Sai Sudharsan's elegant 82 and Prasidh Krishna's clinical 3-wicket haul were pivotal to the Titans' dominance, it was the dismissal of Sanju Samson that marked the turning point of the contest.

GT vs RR Turning Point Sanju Samson Wicket

Chasing a stiff 218-run target, Rajasthan Royals were off to a shaky start as Mohammed Siraj and Arshad Khan rattled the top order inside the powerplay. With Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana back in the pavilion early, the responsibility fell on captain Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer to rebuild and keep the chase alive.

Samson and Hetmyer began doing exactly that. The duo added a counterattacking partnership, mixing aggression with smart rotation of strike. Their stand of 50 runs off 32 deliveries brought Rajasthan back into the hunt. With the required rate creeping up but manageable, all eyes were on this middle-order pair to produce a special finish.

But Gujarat Titans needed just one breakthrough to regain control -- and it came through Prasidh Krishna.

Prasidh, operating as GT's middle-overs enforcer, banged one short to Samson in the 13th over. The RR skipper tried to steer the rising delivery behind point but mistimed it straight into the hands of the fielder at short third. The timing of the wicket couldn't have been worse for Rajasthan. With Hetmyer still there and in good touch, Samson's departure halted RR's momentum just as the innings was approaching its critical death-over phase. That one mistake proved decisive.

With Samson gone, GT's bowlers tightened the screws. Rashid Khan, who had struggled to take wickets this season, struck twice -- removing Dhruv Jurel and Impact Player Shubham Dubey. But it was Prasidh again in the 16th over who broke RR's back. He dismissed both Jofra Archer and Hetmyer -- RR's last remaining hope -- off short deliveries, effectively ending the chase. RR slumped from 115/4 to 145/8, and there was no coming back from there.

Earlier in the evening, GT had ridden on Sudharsan's fluent 82 and impactful cameos from Jos Buttler (36), Shahrukh Khan (36), and a late flourish from Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan to post a daunting 217/6. Archer, who had found rhythm again after a poor start to the season, claimed the big wicket of Shubman Gill and bowled with intensity.

But all that was undone when Rajasthan lost their set skipper at the most crucial juncture of the chase. Samson's wicket didn't just remove a batter-it disrupted RR's entire strategy. Hetmyer's valiant 52 went in vain as GT marched to a commanding win.

In a match where multiple moments sparkled, it was the fall of Samson that truly swung the pendulum Gujarat's way-and there was no turning back after that.
