Kerala youngster Vignesh Puthur has made his IPL debut in the colours of Mumbai Indians. The youngster came on as an Impact Player for MI in their IPL 2025 opener against Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk on Sunday (March 23).
Vignesh was one of MI's acquisitions in the IPL 2025 mega auction as they bought him at his base price of Rs 30 lakh.

Vignesh Puthur, a 23-year-old cricketer from Kerala, has taken a significant leap in his career by securing a spot in the IPL 2025 with the Mumbai Indians. Born on March 2, 2001, in Perinthalmanna, Malappuram district, Vignesh is a spin-bowling all-rounder who delivers left-arm spin.
Coming from a modest background, Vignesh's story is one of determination and resilience. His father, Sunil Kumar, works as an auto driver, while his mother, KP Bindu, is a homemaker. Despite financial constraints, his parents have been steadfast in their support of his cricketing dreams.
Currently pursuing an MA in Literature at PTM Government College in Perinthalmanna, Vignesh has managed to strike a balance between his academics and his passion for cricket.
Vignesh credits the inaugural Kerala Cricket League (KCL) for his breakthrough. Playing for Alleppey Ripples under the leadership of former RCB player Mohammed Azharuddeen, he made a mark despite limited opportunities. In three matches, he picked up two wickets, which caught the attention of Mumbai Indians' scouting team.
This performance led to MI acquiring Vignesh for INR 30 lakh during the 2025 TATA IPL Auction, even though he had not yet made his senior debut for Kerala.
Vignesh started his career as a medium pacer but transformed to a chinaman after advise from a local cricketer named Mohammed Sherif. To pursue his cricket, the 23-year-old also shifted his base from Malappuram to Thrissur. The youngster was also flew to Cape Town as a part of MI Cape Town net bowler, where he worked along with Afghanistan legend Rashid Khan.
Vignesh Puthur dismissed CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad in his very first over in the IPL. The young Kerala boy struck with a flighted delivery and showcased his magic. After Gaikwad, Puthur's enticing flight ensured the demise of Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda as well.
