The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have encountered a significant setback ahead of their crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 fixture against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), scheduled for May 17 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Two of their key overseas players, Moeen Ali and Rovman Powell, will be unavailable for the remainder of the season.

The Knight Riders confirmed on Thursday that both Moeen and Powell will not be available for the final two matches of the season.
Moeen Ali has officially withdrawn from the tournament, citing personal reasons. He participated in six matches this season, securing six wickets with an economy rate of 8.50 and a best bowling figure of 2/23. His absence removes a seasoned all-rounder from KKR's lineup.
Rovman Powell's participation remains uncertain due to an unspecified injury. He is currently under medical evaluation, and the franchise is exploring short-term replacement options.
Despite these challenges, KKR has received a boost with the return of key overseas players. Andre Russell and Sunil Narine have rejoined the squad in Bengaluru, bringing their experience and match-winning capabilities back into the fold. Additionally, South African wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock is set to rejoin the team ahead of the RCB match.
The upcoming match against RCB is pivotal for KKR's playoff aspirations. Currently sixth on the points table with 11 points from 12 matches, KKR must secure victories in their remaining fixtures and rely on favorable outcomes in other matches to advance.
The IPL 2025 season, which was temporarily suspended due to geopolitical tensions, is set to resume with this high-stakes encounter. The final has also been moved from Kolkata due to predicted weather reasons, and the rescheduled final will take place on June 3. BCCI is yet to name the playoff venues but Ahmedabad and Mumbai are in contention for the role.
