IPL 2025: Why has R Ashwin decided to stop CSK coverage on his YouTube Channel? What is the Controversy?

By MyKhel Staff

Chennai Super Kings' marquee spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has pulled the plug on all CSK-related content on his YouTube channels for the rest of IPL 2025, following a wave of criticism and conflict of interest accusations.

Ashwin, who was bought for Rs 9.75 crore by CSK at the IPL 2025 mega auction, had been a familiar face on his channels - Ashwin (Tamil) and Ashkibaat (Hindi) - providing analysis and reactions around the tournament. His early content included auction breakdowns and reactions to CSK's opening win against Mumbai Indians.

What is the Controversy at R Ashwin's YouTube Channel?

But trouble brewed when guest commentators on the platform made controversial remarks after CSK's recent struggles. One guest dismissed the selection of Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad - despite the youngster being CSK's top performer this season - while another segment featured a scout alleging that the team management ignored his recommendations for some players.

Although Ashwin was not directly involved in the disputed videos, his dual role as player and pundit sparked a heated debate about professional boundaries. The conflict of interest was in question as he continues to play for the Super Kings this IPL 2025 season.

Responding to the growing criticism, Ashwin announced his decision to stop covering CSK games on his channel for the remainder of the tournament.

Ashwin confirms No-CSK Policy on YT Channel

"Given the nature of the discussions on this forum over the last week, we want to be mindful of how things can be interpreted and have chosen to step away from covering CSK games, both previews and reviews, for the rest of this season," a statement from Ashwin wrote.

"We value the diversity of perspectives that come through on our shows and remain committed to ensuring the conversation stays true to the integrity and purpose of the platform we've established. The views expressed by our guests do not reflect Ashwin's personal opinions. We appreciate all those who engage thoughtfully with the spirit of the show," it added.

He clarified that the views shared by guests are independent and not reflective of his own. Other IPL-related content - excluding CSK - will continue as part of his regular show The Small Council.
