As IPL 2025 heats up, tensions appear to be simmering within the Rajasthan Royals camp. Among the growing frustrations, one figure stands out - Sanju Samson.
The Royals' captain, long seen as the franchise's face and leader, is reportedly unhappy with several key decisions made by the management, raising serious questions about the team's strategic direction. As per reports, the RR captain is still struggling with an injury but is unhappy with things at the franchise.

A major source of Samson's frustration is believed to be the Royals' baffling choices around player retention. The decision to let go of Jos Buttler - a proven match-winner and a strong ally in the dressing room - reportedly did not sit well with Samson. Buttler's experience and ability to hold the innings together were invaluable assets, and his absence has left Rajasthan's batting order looking vulnerable and inconsistent.
Similarly, as per reports, the release of Trent Boult, one of the league's best new-ball bowlers, has only fueled the discord. Boult's ability to strike early and control games gave Samson the breathing room to rotate his bowlers effectively. His departure has weakened Rajasthan's bowling attack, leaving their captain to constantly play catch-up during the powerplays.
Beyond player retention, the Royals' long-standing failure to recruit a quality all-rounder remains a point of irritation. Despite suggestions from within the team - including strong inputs from Jofra Archer - to bring in versatile players, the management has shown a worrying lack of adaptability. Also, the lack of overseas player is also a big dent in their setup this season. Rajasthan only went forward with six foreigners when the limit is eight, which has played part in their lack of options as well.
Adding another layer to the intrigue is speculation around Samson's equation with former Royals legend and now mentor Rahul Dravid. While Dravid is known for his composed demeanor and long-term vision, there are murmurs that Samson, eager for more immediate results, may not see eye-to-eye with him on crucial decisions.
Though there is no open conflict, the underlying tension between differing philosophies could be contributing to the unease within the camp.
As Rajasthan Royals continue their inconsistent run in IPL 2025, the spotlight is firmly on the internal dynamics and the ramifications, which may take a bigger toll next season.
