IPL 2025: Why Mohammed Shami Receives Death Threat via Email, Police Begin Probe After Family Files Complaint

IPL 2025: In a disturbing turn of events during the ongoing IPL 2025 season, India and Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Mohammed Shami has reportedly received a death threat via email, his brother Haseeb revealed.

According to the report on IndiaToday, the threatening message landed in Shami's inbox on Sunday afternoon, around 2-3 pm, prompting immediate action from the family.

IPL 2025 Why Mohammed Shami Receives Death Threat via Email Police Begin Probe After Family Files Complaint

The matter was swiftly reported to the Amorha police, who have already begun their investigation into the incident. "We didn't waste a moment. The email came in the afternoon, and we rushed to file a complaint the same day," Expressing concern over the safety of the veteran pacer.

The 34-year-old cricketer, who recently made a return to competitive cricket after a lengthy layoff, is currently part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad in IPL 2025. Though Shami's campaign with SRH has not lived up to expectations-just 6 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 56.17-his experience remains invaluable in the dressing room.

Following a major surgery post the 2023 World Cup, where he was India's joint-highest wicket-taker with 9 scalps in 5 matches, Shami underwent a grueling 14-month rehabilitation before returning to the national side during the Champions Trophy.

"Injuries are part and parcel of a fast bowler's life. My recovery took 14 months, and it wasn't easy-especially given the challenges I faced during my domestic career. Regaining rhythm and the right mindset was tough," said Shami in a recent interaction. "In 2023, I had a sudden breakdown, so I made it a point to play as many domestic matches as possible-ended up playing 12 or 13. That, along with the England series, helped me rebuild my confidence. When it comes to performance, I've always focused on giving my best."

Despite the recent slump in form, Shami remains optimistic and credits SRH for reshaping his cricketing outlook.

"SRH has completely changed my perspective-what used to be a 200-run target now feels like 300. They've redefined the game. As for my role, I want to be part of a team that sets new benchmarks and shifts mindsets," he explained. "We've built a strong bowling unit as well at SRH - a solid pace attack and quality spinners to back it. Overall, our bowling is much more balanced now, and those who think SRH is only about batting are mistaken."

Looking ahead, Shami is expected to return to red-ball cricket during India's much-anticipated tour of England, set to begin on June 20. However, with the recent threat looming, questions surrounding player safety have once again taken centre stage.

The cricketing fraternity has expressed shock and concern over the incident, hoping for a swift and thorough investigation. With one of India's most seasoned pacers under duress, this episode serves as a sobering reminder of the challenges players face off the field, even as they give their all on it.
