IPL 2025: Why was Shreyas Iyer abusing PBKS teammate after their Qualifier 2 Win? Revealed

By MyKhel Staff

In the aftermath of Punjab Kings' (PBKS) victory over Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025 Qualifier 2, a notable incident occurred involving captain Shreyas Iyer and teammate Shashank Singh.

Despite securing a place in the final, Iyer was visibly upset with Singh following a critical run-out during the high-stakes chase of a 204-run target. Iyer's unbeaten 87 off 41 balls was instrumental in the win, yet the run-out incident highlighted underlying tensions within the team during a crucial phase of the match.

Shreyas Iyer

This wasn't the first time the dynamics between Iyer and Singh drew attention. Earlier in the season, during a match against Gujarat Titans, Iyer was on 97 runs with one over remaining. Singh, who was at the crease, faced all six deliveries of the final over, scoring 23 runs, which prevented Iyer from reaching his century. Post-match, Singh revealed that Iyer had instructed him to focus on maximizing the team's total rather than his personal milestone, emphasizing a team-first approach.

Why was Shreyas Iyer angry with Shashank Singh?

However, the recent incident in Qualifier 2 made Iyer angry, as Shashank gifted his wicket away in the match against Mumbai Indians. While taking a single, Shashank himself slowed down, underestimating Hardik Pandya. As the MI skipper threw the ball from mid-on, the ball hit the stumps and Shashank was short of his crease.

At a crucial juncture of the match, Shashank's wicket was a significant blow, but Shreyas played a stellar knock to see through PBKS and took them to the final of an IPL after 11 years. And after the match, Shreyas was still angry and as he saw Shashank, the Punjab captain couldn't control his emotions and gave him an explicit warning.
