IPL 2025: Why will KKR wear a special IPL Golden Badge this Season?

The IPL 2025 is set to start from March 22 as Kolkata Knight Riders take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

As the season is less than three weeks away, teams have started to announce and release their new kits for the upcoming edition of the tournament.

KKR, who launched their new kit for the new season on Sunday, announced that they will also don a special badge on their sleeves this season. On the arm, KKR will be wearing a special IPL Golden Badge, which will be the first time in the competition. Along with that, KKR also added a third star over their crest in the jersey, marking their three IPL title wins over the years.

IPL 2025: Why will KKR wear the IPL Golden Badge?

Kolkata Knight Riders will be the only team wearing the Golden Badge this season. The Knight Riders are set to don the special emblem on their jersey as a mark of their title win in IPL 2024.

From this season, IPL has announced the Golden Badge concept to recognize the defending champions. It is a common practice in European Football leagues (eg: Manchester City wearing Golden PL badge this season) and now has been introduced in the IPL as well.

As KKR are the defending champions this season, they are the only team which will be donning the special IPL logo on their shirt. Similarly, the IPL 2025 winner shall also have a Golden Badge in the IPL 2026 season.
