IPL 2025: Will Sanju Samson play again for Rajasthan Royals this Season? Rahul Dravid gives Latest Update

By MyKhel Staff

Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid has provided the latest update on Sanju Samson's injury amid the IPL 2025, ahead of their match against the Mumbai Indians on Thursday (May 1).

Sanju Samson's 2025 IPL season has been significantly disrupted by injuries, affecting both his individual performance and the Rajasthan Royals' overall campaign.

He began the season recovering from a fractured index finger sustained during a T20I against England in February. Upon receiving clearance to resume wicketkeeping, Samson returned as captain and keeper against Punjab Kings.

However, his comeback was short-lived; on April 16, during a Super Over loss to Delhi Capitals, he suffered an abdominal tear after scoring 31* off 19 balls, leading to his retirement hurt and subsequent absence from the next three matches against Lucknow Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Gujarat Titans.

The RR captain remains in rehabilitation, with his participation in the match against Mumbai Indians contingent upon passing a fitness test. And ahead of the match, RR coach Rahul Dravid provided the latest update on Samson. Although the Kerala player continues his road to recovery, Dravid reckons the player's rehabilitation is still a day-by-day process.

"Sanju is recovering well. We have to take it day by day. He has a side strain, and sometimes it can be tricky. We don't want to rush, so it doesn't cause him any trouble in the long run. We are taking care of it in a day-by-day approach," Dravid said during a media round table in the Star Sports Press Room on Wednesday.

Samson has played seven matches this season, amassing 224 runs at an average of 37.33 and a strike rate of 143.59. His contributions include one half-century, 23 fours, and 10 sixes.

Despite these solid numbers, his intermittent availability has hindered the team's consistency. In his absence, Riyan Parag has assumed the captaincy, but the Royals have struggled, securing only three wins in ten matches and currently languishing in the lower half of the points table.
