IPL 2025: Yashasvi Jaiswal Becomes Fifth Fastest to 2,000 IPL Runs with Unbeaten 70 Against GT

IPL 2025: Under the glowing Jaipur sky, Yashasvi Jaiswal scripted another golden chapter in his blossoming IPL journey. The swashbuckling Rajasthan Royals opener raced to 2,000 runs in the Indian Premier League, becoming the fifth fastest to achieve the milestone during RR’s emphatic eight-wicket win over Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday.

Walking in with 1,997 runs to his name, the 23-year-old needed just 37 runs to reach the mark — a target he gleefully overhauled en route to a sparkling unbeaten 70 off 40 balls, laced with nine sumptuous fours and two towering sixes. Jaiswal's fluent knock ensured the Royals made light work of a daunting 210-run chase, wrapping up the match in just 15.5 overs.

IPL 2025 Yashasvi Jaiswal Becomes Fifth Fastest to 2 000 IPL Runs with Unbeaten 70 Against GT

Fifth Fastest to the Milestone

Jaiswal’s achievement places him amongst elite company. He reached the 2,000-run landmark in just 62 innings, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who had taken 63 innings to cross the same mark. Only four players have been quicker: Chris Gayle (48 innings), Shaun Marsh (52 innings), Ruturaj Gaikwad (57 innings), and KL Rahul (60 innings).

Fastest to 2,000 Runs in IPL History:

  • Chris Gayle - 48 innings
  • Shaun Marsh - 52 innings
  • Ruturaj Gaikwad - 57 innings
  • KL Rahul - 60 innings
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal - 62 innings
  • Sachin Tendulkar - 63 innings

Jaiswal’s rapid rise through the ranks is all the more commendable considering the weight of expectations on his young shoulders. He now stands tall with 2,033 runs in 63 matches for Rajasthan Royals at an enviable average of 34.45 and a scintillating strike rate of 151.04.

Royals' Pillar of Strength

The young left-hander is now firmly entrenched among Rajasthan’s batting greats, becoming only the fifth player to breach the 2,000-run mark for the franchise. The illustrious list includes Sanju Samson (3,966 runs), Jos Buttler (3,055 runs), Ajinkya Rahane (2,810 runs), and Shane Watson (2,372 runs).

“Yashasvi’s growth has been phenomenal. He’s not just scoring runs, he’s dictating terms to bowlers. It’s been thrilling to watch him mature into one of our most dependable batters,” RR skipper Sanju Samson remarked after the match.

A Season to Remember

IPL 2025 has been a season of dazzling consistency for Jaiswal. With Monday’s knock, he has taken his tally to 426 runs from 10 matches at a ferocious strike-rate of 152.68. His innings against Gujarat Titans was his fifth fifty of the season, making him joint-second for the most fifties this year alongside GT’s Sai Sudharsan. Only Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Virat Kohli, with six half-centuries, stands ahead.

Jaiswal’s partnership with youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who himself cracked a sensational 35-ball century, was the bedrock of RR’s record-breaking chase. Their 166-run opening stand dismantled Gujarat’s hopes early, drawing raucous cheers from a jubilant home crowd.

A Story of Grit and Glory

Jaiswal’s journey from selling pani puris on the streets of Mumbai to becoming one of IPL’s brightest stars is the stuff of cricketing folklore. Bought by Rajasthan Royals for ₹2.40 crore in the 2020 IPL auction, he has repaid every ounce of faith with towering performances year after year.

Among his many accolades, Jaiswal also holds the record for the fastest fifty in IPL history — a 13-ball blitzkrieg against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023. That same season, he carved his highest score — a breathtaking 124 off 62 balls against Mumbai Indians — the highest individual total by an uncapped player in the league’s history. Now with two centuries and 14 fifties under his belt, Jaiswal’s stock continues to rise meteorically.
