IPL 2026 Auction: KKR, CSK given huge warning as Australia star may play only 4 Matches

By MyKhel Staff

As the IPL 2026 auction is around the corner, the franchises will be aiming to bolster their squad ahead of new season.

A number of overseas players will be available for signing, with teams such as Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings in focus with their large purse and many slots left to fill.

Amid this, Australia's Josh Inglis remains a big name up for grabs. The wicketkeeper-batter is expected to be a major name in the auction pool, but despite that fact, there is a certain hesitation from the sides to go for the Aussie.

Punjab Kings released Inglis ahead of the retention deadline despite his strong IPL 2025 performance (278 runs in 11 matches at a 162.57 strike rate), as he informed the franchise he would miss the majority of the season. Head coach Ricky Ponting expressed disappointment but confirmed retention was impossible given the limited availability. Along with that, Inglis may tie the knot during that time, which will further curb his game time during IPL.

Inglis' absence leaves PBKS with INR 11.5 crore in purse and up to four slots, prompting a search for a replacement overseas wicketkeeper-batter. Franchises have been notified of his roughly 25% availability, making him a risky high base-price option even if circumstances change.

KKR, CSK get Josh Inglis Warning

Amid this, KKR and CSK may have to think before they bid for Josh Inglis, if they wish. KKR, especially, released all of their wicketkeeper and will definitely be looking to bolster their squad in the mini auction. Quinton de Kock and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, two of the star names were left out, and Josh Inglis would be a perfect replacement for them. But with the Australia player's commitment issues for IPL 2026, the Knight Riders may well be skeptical about making a move for him. CSK have MS Dhoni and Sanju Samson in their ranks, thus making Inglis a lot less likely to make the move to the Super Kings.
