IPL 2026: CSK Head Coach Stephen Fleming Shrugs Off MS Dhoni Injury Ahead Of Season Opener Against RR

By MyKhel Staff

RR vs CSK: Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has brushed aside concerns that MS Dhoni's injury absence early in IPL 2026 signals a transition phase for the franchise, asserting that the veteran's presence continues to be deeply influential within the setup.

Speaking at the team's first media interaction ahead of the high-octane clash, the former New Zealand captain said, "It would be a game without him, but not a glimpse of life after MS Dhoni." Fleming further said, "He is still heavily involved with the side. We are managing and rehabilitating his injury, but his influence on the team is very strong."

Fleming also highlighted the growing challenge of injuries in modern-day cricket, pointing out that all teams are dealing with similar concerns due to the demanding nature of the schedule. He expressed confidence in CSK's squad depth, stating that while marquee players are difficult to replace, the abundance of talent-especially in India-ensures teams remain competitive.

After a disappointing campaign last season that saw them finish at the bottom of the table, the five-time champions are aiming for a strong comeback. Fleming credited a refreshed squad and a renewed emphasis on Indian players as key factors behind the team's optimism heading into the new season.

Dewald Brevis Sidelined From Opening Few Matches

Meanwhile, CSK will also be without South African youngster Dewald Brevis for their opening fixtures. The explosive batter has been ruled out of the clash against Rajasthan Royals and the subsequent home game against Punjab Kings due to a side strain.
