Chennai Super Kings produced a commanding all-round display to beat Mumbai Indians by eight wickets with 11 balls remaining in their IPL 2026 encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday (May 2).

MI posted 159 for 7 after being asked to bat first. Ryan Rickelton (37) and Naman Dhir (57 off 37) provided the main resistance, but CSK’s varied attack kept things in check.

Anshul Kamboj claimed 3 for 32, including the wickets of Will Jacks and Hardik Pandya, while Noor Ahmad took 2 for 26. Suryakumar Yadav made 21, but regular breakthroughs prevented MI from building a bigger total on a surface that offered grip for the spinners.

CSK’s chase began with an early jolt as Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Sanju Samson for 11. Ruturaj Gaikwad then took charge, anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 67 off 48 balls (5 fours, 2 sixes). He forged an unbroken 98-run partnership with Kartik Sharma (54* off 40), who played fluently with four boundaries and three sixes. Urvil Patel contributed a quick 24 before falling to AM Ghazanfar. The target was comfortably reeled in as CSK showcased composure and intent under lights. Gaikwad was named Player of the Match for his match-defining knock.

CSK register 3rd Double over MI in IPL

This victory stands as CSK's biggest win against MI by wickets in IPL history and completes a league double over their arch-rivals this season - only the third time they have achieved this feat after 2014 and 2023. The Super Kings secured a fantastic win at the Wankhede in the earlier fixture this season, and thus now have their third double over the arch rivals.
