IPL 2026: As the countdown to IPL 2026 begins, Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Abhishek Nayar has outlined the team's primary challenge heading into the new campaign. Speaking ahead of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League, Nayar stressed that getting the right playing combination will be crucial for KKR's success this season.
Nayar admitted that with a refreshed squad, the immediate focus will be on building a well-balanced playing XI. "Initially, it's about making sure we get a fit playing eleven and get our combinations right," Nayar said.

"With new combinations, it's important to position players in roles where they can succeed," the KKR head coach added. He highlighted that once the team establishes a solid foundation, momentum will naturally follow as the tournament progresses.
KKR begin their campaign against the Mumbai Indians, but Nayar insisted the team is not getting ahead of itself. Emphasising preparation over pressure, he said the current focus remains on training and understanding the squad better at Eden Gardens.
"You have to keep your head where your feet are," Nayar noted. "Right now, our focus is on preparation and getting into the right headspace for the first game."
While a positive start can set the tone, Nayar believes consistency and clarity in approach matter more over the course of a long tournament. "It doesn't matter who we're playing. What matters is that we play our best cricket," he said.
With expectations high and a new-look squad in place, KKR will look to quickly find the right balance as they aim for a strong IPL 2026 campaign.
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad for the IPL 2026 season is led by captain Ajinkya Rahane. Under new head coach Abhishek Nayar, the team underwent a significant overhaul during the December 2025 mini-auction, which included the record-breaking signing of Australian all-rounder Cameron Green for ₹25.20 crore.
