Lucknow Super Giants head coach Justin Langer has expressed confidence in his squad ahead of IPL 2026, highlighting a strong auction, improved squad balance, and a refreshed captain Rishabh Pant as key positives.
Speaking ahead of the new season on JioStar's 'IPL Today Live', Langer said LSG have built on a solid foundation from last year and now possess the depth required to challenge consistently.

"It's been a brilliant build-up. We had a very good auction and that's where it starts. Our batting was number one in the competition last year, and now we've strengthened the squad further. There will be some tough selection calls," Langer said.
The former Australian opener stressed that if LSG's batting continues its form and the bowling unit develops as expected, the team could emerge as a serious contender in IPL 2026.
One of the major talking points for LSG this season is the presence of experienced pacer Mohammed Shami, who is already making an impact off the field by mentoring younger bowlers like Mayank Yadav.
Langer revealed how Shami's influence is being felt within the dressing room. "During a team lunch, Shami was speaking and all the boys were hanging on his every word. He's incredibly experienced, a true warrior. It's like a master-apprentice dynamic, and that's exactly what we want in the group," he said.
Langer also spoke glowingly about captain Rishabh Pant, who appears to be in a much more relaxed frame of mind heading into the season.
After returning from injury and settling into the franchise environment, Pant's positive energy could be crucial to LSG's campaign.
"If Rishabh is laughing, smiling and enjoying himself, he'll be a brilliant captain. We're already seeing a lighter version of him. When he's like that, there's no one more exciting to watch in the world," Langer noted.
He added that Pant's comfort within the squad and his natural flair make him a potentially "dangerous" player for opposition teams.
Another major boost for LSG ahead of IPL 2026 is the overhaul of their support staff and fitness setup.
Langer pointed out that unlike previous seasons-where players often arrived after injuries-the current squad has benefitted from a more structured pre-season.
With a revamped medical team and experienced backroom staff, LSG are aiming for better player availability and consistency throughout the tournament.
With a powerful batting unit, experienced mentors like Shami, and a rejuvenated captain in Pant, Lucknow Super Giants appear well-equipped for IPL 2026.
If their bowling attack clicks alongside their already proven batting strength, LSG could emerge as one of the most balanced sides in the competition.
