IPL 2026: Kane Williamson Likely To Get Bigger Role At LSG After Disappointing Season- Report
Lucknow Super Giants are staring at a possible shake-up after a disappointing IPL 2026 season, and Kane Williamson may be right at the center of it. The former New Zealand skipper was brought in as a strategic advisor, but according to a recent report by Revsportz, the franchise could put more responsibilities on his shoulders.
The Super Giants finished at the bottom of the table with just eight points from 14 matches, raising serious questions about the team's direction. Head coach Justin Langer is also under pressure, while the future of captain Rishabh Pant remains uncertain. For now, the Lucknow-based franchise is reviewing its season, but the signs clearly point toward major decisions in the coming weeks. Williamson's calm mindset, tactical understanding, and strong reputation in world cricket make him an attractive option if the franchise wants a fresh start after a forgettable campaign.

Tom Moody's 'Reset' Sparks More Questions Around Pant
When Williamson was appointed, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka wrote on social media: "His leadership, strategic insight, deep understanding of the game, and ability to inspire players make him an invaluable addition to the team." The statement reflected the confidence the franchise already had in the former Kiwi captain.
After the Punjab Kings clash, LSG global director of cricket Tom Moody openly hinted at possible changes during the post-match press conference. "From a captaincy point of view, you know, he (Pant) has found it challenging, obviously, and the results reflect that," Moody said. He later added, "we will consider all things," before making the strongest remark of all: "it certainly looks like that we are needing to consider a reset."
Crucial Off-Season Awaits LSG
The coming months could shape the future of the Super Giants. Despite spending a record Rs 27 crore to bring Pant into the squad, things have not gone according to plan for the explosive wicketkeeper-batter. Questions are now being raised not only about his batting form but also about the pressure of leading the side during a difficult season.
At the same time, Williamson's growing influence inside the dressing room has become hard to ignore. The former Blackcaps captain is respected for his calm leadership style and sharp cricket brain, qualities that many believe LSG lacked during key moments this season.
With Justin Langer's future also uncertain, the franchise may now look toward a fresh leadership structure as they try to rebuild after a disastrous IPL 2026 campaign.
