IPL 2026: Ahead of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have named Navdeep Saini as a backup for Harshit Rana, who has been sidelined from the entire season of the IPL. Saini was associated with the KKR before the season, bowling in the nets, and was poised to succeed Akash Deep, who was also ruled out of the season.
However, Subhash Dubey was favoured over Saini and succeeded Akash Deep in the camp. Saini secured his maiden IPL deal with Delhi Capitals in 2018 but did not feature in any matches that season. He broke into the spotlight the following year with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, playing 13 matches and claiming 11 wickets. He remained with the franchise for two more seasons before moving to the Rajasthan Royals, where he featured in just four matches over two editions.

Despite his limited appearances later on and going unsold in the most recent auction, Saini's impressive performances with RCB earned him a call-up to the Indian national team, where he has represented the country across all formats. Overall, he has taken 23 wickets in the IPL.
The right-arm pacer was elated with the information about the selection news into the team. "To be honest, I am feeling very good because the way we say Kolkata Knight Rider, if you have to explain this to a person, there is a feeling in it. So, I am feeling very good as a Knight Rider," Saini said, quoted the KKR Knight Club.
The Indian pacer further said that he was informed about the decision only last week and the first reaction was a mix of disbelief and satisfaction. In a way, it felt like something that had already been visualised coming true. I knew it could happen at any time, but it was important to stay patient and keep faith in God. When it finally did happen, I just took it all in and genuinely enjoyed the moment.
When asked about the out of the blue opportunity in KKR, Saini said that he would describe the opportunity as a revival, considering the ups and downs he had experienced over the past two to three years. During that phase, he emphasised that staying strong and continuing to work hard was the most important thing.
He explained that ever since making his domestic debut, his approach had always been centred around hard work, and even during difficult periods, he never abandoned that mindset. According to him, it was this consistency and perseverance that ultimately led to the opportunity.
He added that he truly saw it as a revival in his journey. He also concluded by saying "Aami KKR," expressing his connection and belonging with the team.
Gujarat Titans have picked left-arm pacer Kulwant Khejroliya as a replacement for the injured Prithviraj Yarra ahead of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
Gujarat Titans will begin their campaign against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on March 31, before returning to Ahmedabad for their first home match against Rajasthan Royals on April 4.
