IPL 2026: Lucknow Super Giants Seek To Win Maiden Trophy With A Revamped Squad

Lucknow Super Giants aim for a deeper run in TATA IPL 2026 with a refreshed identity and support staff. On JioStar's 'IPL Today Live’, owner Sanjiv Goenka and Global Director of Cricket Tom Moody outlined squad changes, bowling plans, and title expectations.

Tom Moody said the franchise reviewed its 2025 build-up. He felt preparation “wasn't as good as it could have been” and some players were underdone in fitness. He highlighted a “strong, high-quality” domestic fast-bowling attack, strengthened by a trade for Mohammed Shami.

Moody noted Shami will “lead that group and show the way forward”. He said all areas needing work were addressed, including a new medical team. He added that every fast bowler now pushes for selection, which he called the ideal situation before the first game.

Area Issue in 2025 Change for 2026
Preparation Players underdone, fitness concerns Improved planning, fitness focus
Pace attack Lacked depth and balance Domestic core plus Mohammed Shami
Medical set-up Needed upgrade New medical team appointed

On the pressure to win, Moody said embracing pressure is part of professional cricket. He spoke of “quiet confidence” within the group, which he linked to belief in the squad’s readiness. He felt the players seem undaunted by what lies ahead.

Sanjiv Goenka on injuries, roles and bowling core

Sanjiv Goenka recalled LSG winning four of their first six games last season despite injuries to most frontline bowlers. He praised bold calls, like Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh opening, saying it became the best IPL season for both players.

Goenka also highlighted Digvesh Rathi’s impact as a complete newcomer. He admitted the side “lacked a strong bowling core” and said management has “consciously addressed that” by building a domestic Indian bowling unit. He stated the franchise is happy with the current squad.

Goenka said the team’s true identity is still forming. He felt respect and affection grow after a trophy win. He noted LSG have made the playoffs twice but called that “clearly not good enough” and stressed the need to claim a first title.
