IPL 2026: R Ashwin Slams Punjab Kings Management Amid 5-Match Losing Streak, Reason Revealed

The Punjab Kings (PBKS) find themselves in the middle of a disastrous mid-season collapse in the 2026 Indian Premier League. As the pressure mounts from disgruntled fans and critics alike, veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has stepped in to defend the players on the field, directing his frustration squarely at the Punjab Kings management for their disruptive scheduling decisions.

The Punjab Kings started their IPL 2026 campaign in an incredibly dominant fashion, looking like absolute certainties for a top-two finish. However, that early momentum has completely evaporated. The franchise is currently enduring a dismal five-match losing streak on the trot, which has seen them plummet down the standings to precariously hold onto the 4th spot.

IPL 2026 R Ashwin Slams Punjab Kings Management Amid 5-Match Losing Streak Reason Revealed

With the playoff race tightening, the PBKS batting unit has seemingly lost its rhythm, struggling heavily to post or chase down competitive totals. While many spectators are quick to blame the players for this sudden loss of form, a deeper structural issue orchestrated by the boardroom is severely handicapping the squad.

R Ashwin's Analysis: The Problem with Shifting Venues for PBKS

Speaking out about the situation, former PBKS captain Ravichandran Ashwin pointed out a glaring flaw in the franchise's overarching strategy: the constant shifting of their "home" fortress. While PBKS played their initial home games at the newly built stadium in Mullanpur, their secondary home games have been shifted to the high-altitude Dharamshala stadium.

Highlighting the stability of champion franchises, Ashwin stated: "The most successful IPL teams, KKR, CSK, MI and SRH, have won a combined 15 titles, and one thing they never changed was their home venue. In Punjab's case, I personally feel changing venues was the wrong move. We once won 5 matches in Mohali, then shifted to Indore and ended up getting knocked out. Even now, Punjab aren't playing in Mullanpur, they're playing in Dharamshala where batting first becomes difficult on that surface. The players already have to adapt, and that affects the batting unit. Their lineup is already scoring 30-40 runs lesser than expected because of constant adjustments. People will say Punjab lost five in a row, but they also had to play important games at a changed venue. If teams with 15 combined titles stick to one home venue, that definitely means something."

In franchise T20 cricket, building a true "home fortress" where players intimately know the pitch dimensions, bounce, and pace is the ultimate blueprint for championship success. As Ravichandran Ashwin accurately analyzed, the Punjab Kings management's decision to split their home games inherently strips the team of this vital advantage.

By forcing their own players to adapt to unknown, challenging conditions in must-win games, PBKS is essentially playing away matches even when listed as the home side. If they hope to arrest this five-match slide, survive in the 4th spot, and make a deep playoff run, the management must reconsider this fragmented venue strategy and commit to a single home ground.
