Gavaskar on surge in huge run chases
Speaking on Star Sports' Mul Cricket Live, JioStar expert Sunil Gavaskar linked Rajasthan's chase to recent high totals. He said, "It was similar to what RCB did to GT, or PBKS did to DC, when they chased 260-plus so comfortably."
He added that once one team succeeds, others gain belief. "Since then, we've had multiple 200-plus chases, and now even 220-plus totals are being chased with balls to spare," he said, crediting a strong belief that even 220 or 240 is not safe.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's fearless batting was praised.
On the 'Fearless Prodigy’ Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Gavaskar told JioStar viewers, "He made excellent use of the field and picked the line beautifully." He admired the ease and power in Suryavanshi's strokeplay and how calm he stayed during the chase.
Gavaskar said youth helped Suryavanshi play without fear. "You play without fear, without worrying about the opposition, and just back your natural game," he said, pointing to the batter's clear mindset in a high target chase.
Must-win stretch for Mumbai Indians
Looking at today's MI-SRH match, Gavaskar said on JioStar duty, "MI now need to win every game from here, and they can do that." But he warned that recent heavy defeats could hurt their playoff push.
He referred to Mumbai's batting collapse. "The recent loss, especially getting bowled out for 100-odd, was disappointing," he said. Gavaskar felt such results might matter in a tight race for the fourth playoff spot this season.
Tare on 'Heavyweight’ Jaiswal's controlled chase
JioStar expert Aditya Tare analysed Yashasvi Jaiswal's role in the chase. "They set the chase up really well, scoring 80-plus in the Powerplay," he said on Star Sports, stressing the value of the opening stand when chasing a score in the 220 range.
Tare said Jaiswal's strength lies in control and risk-free options. "His cricketing shots are largely risk-free, particularly through the covers and point. That's what makes him so consistent across formats," he said, underlining Jaiswal's value at the top of the order.
