IPL 2026: RCB’s All-Round Dominance Floors LSG as Defending Champions Climb to Standings
Bengaluru, Apr 15: Royal Challengers Bengaluru produced a near-flawless performance to dismantle Lucknow Super Giants in a one-sided IPL 2026 contest here at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, sealing a comprehensive win with 29 balls to spare on Wednesday (April 15).
In a match that exposed LSG's ongoing batting struggles, RCB dominated with the ball, were electric in the field, and chased down the target with authority.

This emphatic victory propelled defending champions RCB to the summit of the IPL 2026 standings, with 8 points from 5 matches and a healthy net run rate of +1.503-underlining their early-season dominance.
Hazlewood Leads Ruthless Bowling Display
On a surface that was unusually slow and two-paced for Chinnaswamy, RCB's bowlers adapted brilliantly. Josh Hazlewood was at the forefront, relentlessly hitting hard lengths and exploiting variable bounce to choke LSG's batting lineup.
LSG, who are yet to cross the 200-run mark this season, once again faltered badly. Their innings never gained momentum, with wickets falling regularly. Only the efforts of uncapped players Mukul and Ayush Badoni prevented a complete collapse, helping them limp to 146.
Reflecting on the conditions and his approach, Player of the Match Hazlewood said, "It was quite a slow wicket today and a little bit up and down, so I just had to whack away that length and get the result. It was an all-round effort today. I thought all the bowlers bowled unbelievable."
He also highlighted the communication within the bowling unit: "Bhuvi in particular, but all around the bowling attack just summing up the conditions as early as we can... I think that's a huge plus for us."
Fielding Intensity Sets RCB Apart
Backing up their disciplined bowling was a sharp fielding display that ensured LSG never found easy runs. RCB's energy in the field included a couple of standout catches, notably from Phil Salt, reflecting the team's emphasis on this department.
Captain Rajat Patidar praised the effort, saying, "From the start of the IPL, RCB is working on the fielding intensity... Salt usually takes those one-handed and flying catches. So, it was easier for him."
Collective Batting Seals Comfortable Chase
Chasing a modest 146, RCB's batting unit displayed composure and depth. Interestingly, the match did not produce a single individual 50-plus score-making it the first such instance at Chinnaswamy since the 2018 season (excluding rain-affected games).
However, what RCB lacked in individual milestones, they made up for in collective intent. Contributions across the lineup ensured there were no hiccups in the chase as they wrapped up the game comfortably with plenty of balls to spare.
LSG's Batting Crisis Deepens
For Lucknow Super Giants, the defeat highlighted a worrying trend. Their batting unit has failed to click throughout the season, and this match was no different.
Stand-in captain Nicholas Pooran admitted the struggles: "It's no secret we have been struggling with the bat the entire season and today we obviously paid the price. 175 would've been competitive for us."
Despite the poor run, Pooran remained hopeful: "It's a tough game to stay consistent... but I believe it's a matter of time. We just have to stay patient."
The situation could be further complicated by concerns over Rishabh Pant's injury, which adds to LSG's growing list of worries.
RCB's Depth and Winning Culture on Display
This win once again underlined RCB's depth and balance. Hazlewood became the latest Player of the Match for the franchise this season, following Jacob Duffy, Tim David, and Phil Salt. Since 2025, RCB have now had 10 different players win POTM awards-the most by any team-showcasing their wide pool of match-winners.
The victory also marked RCB's first-ever win over LSG at the Chinnaswamy after three previous unsuccessful attempts, adding another milestone to their campaign.
Patidar, however, struck a measured tone: "It's a long way to go. Right now, we are just looking one game at a time."
What's Next?
With two more home games lined up, RCB will look to extend their strong run at Chinnaswamy and tighten their grip on the top spot. For LSG, urgent answers are needed-particularly with the bat-as their season risks slipping away early.
