IPL 2026: Big Money Signings No Game - Five Benchwarmers Who Have Not Played a Single Match This Season
The IPL 2026 playoffs continue to deliver high-octane drama, gearing up for a massive Eliminator clash as the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) take on the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
With it being a do-or-die fixture, both franchises are set to field their absolute best, battle-tested playing 11 in hopes of keeping their championship dreams alive.

IPL 2026: An Auction Pick Doesn't Guarantee a Playing Spot
However, the intense, cut-throat nature of the IPL means that a hefty price tag does not automatically buy you a spot on the field. The auction room hype often fades once the tactical realities of the season set in. Getting picked up by a team for a massive amount during the auction simply does not guarantee a playing spot in the final 11.
Here is a look at the "Million-Dollar Bench", players who commanded massive attention and prices but failed to get game time in IPL 2026:
Mangesh Yadav (Royal Challengers Bengaluru)
Price Tag: ₹5.20 Crore
The left-arm pacer and all-rounder was bought for a whopping ₹5.20 Crore at the IPL 2026 mini-auction in December 2025. The son of a truck driver from a village in Madhya Pradesh, Yadav made headlines after becoming the leading wicket-taker of the 2025 MP Premier League, claiming 14 wickets in just 6 games. Despite the incredible backstory and the massive price tag, he is still waiting to make his IPL debut and has yet to score his first run or bowl his first over for RCB.
Ishant Sharma (Gujarat Titans)
Price Tag: ₹75 Lakh
The veteran India pacer was picked up by the Gujarat Titans for his immense experience and leadership qualities. However, GT's pace attack was already heavily packed with the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, and Prasidh Krishna. Unable to break into this stacked fast-bowling lineup, Sharma has remained benched all season.
Jayant Yadav (Gujarat Titans)
Price Tag: ₹75 Lakh
After going unsold in the 2023 and 2024 auctions, the veteran off-spinner was handed a lifeline by GT in IPL 2026. Unfortunately, he found himself buried deep in the pecking order behind established spinners like Rashid Khan, Manav Suthar, and Sai Kishore. As a result, Jayant Yadav did not get a single game this season.
Rahul Tripathi (Kolkata Knight Riders)
Price Tag: ₹75 Lakh
Tripathi is a veteran of 100+ IPL matches and is widely known for his intent and aggressive batting style. Despite his proven track record, KKR's team management opted to back Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Finn Allen at the top of the order. With the playing 11 firing on all cylinders, there simply was no place in the side for Tripathi.
Prithvi Shaw (Delhi Capitals)
Price Tag: ₹75 Lakh
Once touted as India's next big thing, Shaw's trajectory has seen a dramatic fall. After going unsold in IPL 2025, he received a late lifeline from the Delhi Capitals during the IPL mini-auction. Despite the second chance, Shaw failed to make the playing XI and eventually found himself not even securing a spot on the bench.
