While batters and bowlers grab the headlines, wicketkeepers are the silent architects of a team's success. The 2025 IPL champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, proved that sharp fielding and reliable glovework are necessary to win tightly contested matches.
As the IPL 2026 season approaches, several agile wicketkeepers are on the verge of making history behind the stumps. In the T20 format, a stumping or a sharp catch behind the wickets can change the momentum of a championship race. Following the 2025 season where several matches were decided by thin margins, the role of a wicketkeeper has never been more vital.

Here are three wicketkeepers aiming to complete 100 dismissals in this year's IPL.
The experienced South African gloveman is one of the safest hands in the league. De Kock enters the new season sitting on 84 career dismissals (a combination of catches and stumpings). He requires 16 dismissals to hit the 100-mark. Given the volume of edges generated by fast bowlers in the powerplay, de Kock is well on track to achieve this record this season.
The South African is also back for Mumbai Indians as he was picked up at his base price of Rs 1 crore in the IPL 2026 season.
Sanju Samson is highly respected for his athletic catches and quick reflexes behind the stumps. He starts the IPL 2026 season with 80 dismissals to his credit. With the bowlers of Chennai Super Kings at the helm of a potential attacking threat to the Opposition, he requires 20 dismissals to reach the century mark.
Despite being close to 100 scalps, Samson's wicketkeeping role remains in doubt as veteran MS Dhoni may still have his role behind the stumps.
While he has balanced roles as a premier batter and captain, KL Rahul has also been effective with the gloves. He currently has 66 dismissals and needs 34 more to reach 100. While it may take a prolific season behind the stumps, his safe hands remain a major asset for his side in IPL 2026. KL Rahul was part of Delhi Capitals last season and he continues for them despite rumours of a move to other teams.
