IPL 2027: Hardik Pandya CSK Deal Off? R Ashwin gives latest on MI captain's Destination

Hardik Pandya's future with Mumbai Indians has become a major talking point ahead of IPL 2027, with speculation mounting over a possible trade involving the India all-rounder.

Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has now weighed in on the situation, discussing the franchises that could emerge as potential destinations for the Mumbai captain.

Hardik returned to Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2024 after leading Gujarat Titans to the IPL title in 2022 and the final in 2023. However, his return was accompanied by a major leadership change, as he replaced Rohit Sharma as captain. With questions surrounding Mumbai's future plans, reports of potential trade discussions have added another layer to the uncertainty.

One of the possibilities discussed in recent speculation is a move to Chennai Super Kings, where MS Dhoni's influence could potentially play a role. However, Ashwin believes that such a transfer would be difficult to materialise despite the potential benefits Hardik could bring to the five-time champions.

"There have been conversations that Dhoni will personally convince Hardik Pandya to come to CSK. It will be a great addition for CSK. But in my opinion, it is a real far-shot," Ashwin said.

Ashwin also identified Rajasthan Royals as a potential frontrunner in the reported trade discussions, suggesting that the franchise could be better positioned to secure Hardik's services if he leaves Mumbai Indians.

"From what I've heard, RR are at the top of the list in the Hardik trade," Ashwin said.

Ashwin Tips Rajasthan Royals as Potential Destination for Hardik

Ashwin's comments have placed Rajasthan Royals firmly in the spotlight amid the growing speculation surrounding Hardik's future. The former Chennai Super Kings player suggested that the Jaipur-based franchise could be ahead of other interested teams in the reported discussions.

However, his remarks do not confirm that a deal is close to completion. Neither Mumbai Indians nor Rajasthan Royals has officially announced an agreement involving Hardik, meaning the all-rounder's future remains uncertain.

Kolkata Knight Riders have also been linked with interest in Hardik, with his experience as a captain and his ability to contribute with both bat and ball making him an attractive option for franchises looking to strengthen their squads.

MyKhel reported earlier that RR is one of Hardik's potential destinations, and if this materializes, it will be a massive boost for the inaugural IPL champions.
