IPL 2027: Mumbai Indians Likely To Part Away With Suryakumar Yadav For New Season- Report

Five-time IPL champions, the Mumbai Indians, are set to part ways with Suryakumar Yadav ahead of the new IPL season. According to a report by CricBlogger, the report says the possible split is linked to both cricketing and off-field factors, though the franchise's stated position remains that no final call has been taken.

Although the report is not official, multiple sources have indicated that Suryakumar is "certainly on his way out" of the five-time IPL champions. However, a source close to Mumbai Indians dismissed the talk and told CricBlogger: "These are nothing but speculations. The franchise is yet to take a call on anything."

IPL 2027 Mumbai Indians Likely To Part Away With Suryakumar Yadav For New Season- Report

Suryakumar Yadav's MI Future Under Scrutiny

The uncertainty comes despite Suryakumar producing a strong IPL 2025 campaign. As per his IPL records, the right-hander scored 717 runs in 16 matches at an average of 65.18 that season. That performance, on its own, would not normally point towards a franchise moving away from a senior Indian batter of his stature.

But the report adds that his returns in the seasons around that peak have raised concerns. Suryakumar made 345 runs in 11 matches in IPL 2024 and 270 runs from 13 matches in IPL 2026. That uneven three-season pattern appears to have contributed to questions about his long-term role in the side.

The larger issue, however, is that performance may not be the only factor. According to multiple sources, it is the off-field developments have also affected Suryakumar's standing. No specific details of those developments have been officially confirmed, and Mumbai Indians have not publicly announced any disciplinary or selection-related decision.

India Captaincy Context Adds Another Layer

The report also links the situation to Suryakumar's India role. CricBlogger claimed that India head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar had agreed that a change of guard was needed, while some within the BCCI still wanted Suryakumar to get another series as captain in England.

That view, according to the report, was influenced by his recent status as a T20 World Cup-winning captain. Even so, the article suggests that off-field concerns may have weakened his case to continue both as an India leader and as a Mumbai Indians player. For now, the most important point is that Mumbai Indians have not made an official announcement. Until the franchise confirms its retention plans or releases its squad decisions, Suryakumar's position remains a matter of reported uncertainty rather than a formal exit.
