IPL 2027 Retention: Three Players Who Could Be Lucky to Be Retained by RCB Ahead of Mini Auction

Royal Challengers Bengaluru could face some important decisions ahead of the IPL 2027 retention deadline as the defending champions look to maintain their title-winning core while strengthening their squad.

Although their retention plans remain unconfirmed, player availability, opportunities, overseas combinations and value for money could influence the franchise's decisions before the mini auction.

IPL 2027 Retention Three Players Who Could Be Lucky to Be Retained by RCB Ahead of Mini Auction

The consecutive IPL champions mostly have a settled squad, but in the IPL 2027 auction, they may well still be eyeing to bring in a couple of new faces, at the expense of some of the old ones. Here are three players whose retention seems a question.

1. Yash Dayal - ₹5 crore

Dayal's absence from IPL 2026 makes his future at RCB an important question ahead of the next season. The left-arm pacer was retained following a successful 2025 campaign, when he claimed 13 wickets in 15 matches. However, RCB confirmed in March 2026 that he would not join the squad due to a personal situation, while remaining under contract. His availability and circumstances could influence the franchise's decision on his ₹5 crore investment.

2. Mangesh Yadav - ₹5.20 crore

RCB spent ₹5.20 crore to acquire Mangesh at the IPL 2026 auction, making him one of their significant investments in Indian pace-bowling depth. However, if he fails to secure meaningful opportunities and establish himself in the playing XI, the franchise could reassess his place. Releasing him would free up funds to target a more established option, although his potential and limited exposure could also justify another season.

3. Nuwan Thushara - ₹1.60 crore

Thushara offers RCB an overseas pace option with an unconventional bowling action and experience in T20 cricket. However, overseas slots are limited, and the franchise must balance its fast-bowling resources with overseas batters and all-rounders. If RCB identify a more suitable alternative for their bowling combination, the Sri Lankan pacer could be released despite his relatively modest price.
