IPL anthems before the start of each and every glittering season since 2008 have played a major role in setting the mood of the cricket crazy nation. India as a nation and BCCI as a cricketing body was reluctant when the shortest format of the game arrived in the cricketing map.
The relevance of the format was in question and this was the same reason why the Indian team travelled without the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan. However, the scenario changed drastically once MS Dhoni's India won the inaugural edition.

The popularity of the format was immense, and the BCCI wasted no time in launching their own T20 league - Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. Sachin Tendulkar captaining Mumbai Indians, Rahul Dravid leading Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Sourav Ganguly getting the reins of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) created a major buzz.
The prospect of biggest Indian stars going against each other, Ganguly, Shoaib Akhtar and Ricky Ponting playing together for the same team, and uncapped domestic stars rubbing shoulders with the best in the world, tickled the bones of billions of cricket fans in India.
