Chennai Super Kings made several key buys at the IPL Auction 2024 as they wrapped up the New Zealand duo of Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra for Rs 14 crore and Rs 1.80 crore respectively at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on Tuesday (December 19).
Following the purchases, CSK fans broke into celebrations on X, formerly Twitter, while many pointed out the New Zealand connection as coach Stephen Fleming was credited for the two purchases. With the two buys, CSK have four Kiwi players in the team with Mitchell Santner and Devon Conway at the team already. We take a look at some of the Twitter reactions.

At the IPL 2024 Auction, Rachin Ravindra went under the hammer first. Before PBKS entered the picture at Rs 1.1 crore, CSK and DC initiated the bidding war for Ravindra. CSK, nevertheless, got the final laugh.
Ravindra gained fame in the ODI World Cup 2023 in India, finishing as the fourth-highest run scorer of the tournament with 578 runs in 10 innings. Ravindra has amassed 145 runs at an average of 13.18 and a strike rate of 117.88 in 18 Twenty20 Internationals for New Zealand. If needed, Ravindra can bat down the order and bowl left-arm spinner.
In case of Daryl Mitchell, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings engaged in a protracted bidding battle before DC gave up. Following a protracted delay, CSK entered the contest and then engaged in a back-and-forth battle with PBKS, who ultimately withdrew.
"He (Stokes) played just one game, so not massive shoes," Fleming said. "Daryl is a different type of player, but his performances over the last 18-24 months have warranted this type of price. He is an unfashionable player who often goes under the radar.
"With his ability to spin, he is competitive, and he is also a handy bowler. In Chepauk, we can slide him into a role. Just like his performances, he fits in nicely and is a good buy for us."
