IPL Auction 2024: 'Rovman Powell To Rajasthan Royals!' Zaheer Khan Correctly Predicts During Mock Auction

By MyKhel Staff

Zaheer Khan showcased his understanding of IPL franchises as the former Indian pacer, who had a coaching stint with Mumbai Indians in the past, correctly predicts that Rajasthan Royals will go for Rajasthan Royals at the IPL Auction 2024.

The West Indies all-rounder went to the first IPL champions for Rs 7.40 crore during a bidding war with Kolkata Knight Riders as Rovman Powell was the first player to be sold at the IPL 2024 Auction in Dubai on Tuesday (December 19).

The official broadcaster JioCinema hosted an IPL 2024 mock auction a day before the gala event at the Coca-Cola Arena. During the bidding war, Zaheer Khan and his former international teammate Robin Uthappa predicted that RR and KKR respectively go for Rovman Powell at the IPL Auction 2024. Zaheer Khan won the mock bidding at Rs 7 crore.

Post set 1 of the IPL Auction 2024, Zaheer Khan said that he would have gone for a higher amount if Robin Uthappa hadn't stopped bidding and believed Rajasthan Royals would have done the same while adding that amount could have been above Rs 8 crore if Kolkata Knight Riders had pushed.

The bidding war at the auction was no different as KKR management was involved in a long discussion, mostly between KKR CEO Venky Mysore and the franchise's new mentor Gautam Gambhir. They eventually gave up as Rajasthan Royals remained relentless in the pursuit of Rovman Powell.

Rajasthan Royals had the second-smallest prize purse at the IPL Auction 2024 at Rs 14.5 crore ahead of Lucknow Super Giants, who had Rs 13.5 crore in their kitty. That's the reason, it took many by surprise when RR went after Rovman Powell for an amount that was more than half of their prize purse. Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, have 12 slots to fill after releasing a lot of players and have Rs 32.7 crore to spend at the IPL Auction 2024.
