IPL Auction 2025: Glenn Maxwell's Salary Comparison in IPL Over the Years as the Batter Takes Massive Paycut

Glenn Maxwell, the Australian all-rounder known for his explosive batting, has taken a massive pay cut at the IPL 2025 auction, as he was sold for a mere Rs 4.2 crore to Punjab Kings.

This dramatic reduction in his auction price marks a sharp decline from the glitzy IPL contracts Maxwell has enjoyed in the past. Maxwell, who started his IPL journey in 2012 with Delhi Daredevils, has seen his value fluctuate through the years.

IPL Auction 2025 Glenn Maxwell s Salary Comparison in IPL Over the Years as the Batter Takes Massive Paycut

His IPL salary reached its peak in 2021, where he was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a staggering Rs 14.25 crore. However, despite a steady presence in the Bangalore lineup since 2021, his performance last season, where he took 6 wickets in 10 matches, wasn’t enough to justify a repeat of his sky-high auction prices. In fact, his price dropped each year from his high in 2021, settling at Rs 11 crore for three consecutive years before the IPL 2025 auction.

Maxwell’s decline in price comes as no surprise, with RCB opting not to use their Right to Match (RTM) card. Despite Maxwell’s explosive performances over the years and his ability to turn games around with both bat and ball, RCB\'s decision to pass on him left the door open for other franchises. SRH kicked off the bidding, but it was PBKS and CSK who locked horns for the Aussie. After an intense battle, Maxwell was eventually secured by Punjab Kings for Rs 4.2 crore, a far cry from his lucrative IPL contracts in the past.

The price cut represents a significant shift in Maxwell’s IPL career. From the Rs 9 crore deal with Delhi in 2018 to his record-breaking Rs 14.25 crore stint with RCB, this massive dip raises questions about his future in the tournament. Over the years, Maxwell has scored 2771 IPL runs at an impressive strike rate of 156.73, along with picking up 37 wickets at an economy rate of 8.28, but it seems the market is signaling a change.

As for PBKS, securing Maxwell for Rs 4.2 crore could prove to be a bargain, especially if the all-rounder rediscovered his form. Still, Maxwell’s price drop reminds us how quickly fortunes can change in the high-stakes world of IPL auctions.
