The IPL 2025 mega auction is set to raise the curtain of the next cycle of the competition, and the two-day extravaganza is set to take place in Jeddah on Sunday (November 24) and Monday (November 25) respectively.
BCCI announced the extravagant list of the retained players in October and now it's all about the franchises to conjure up the other parts of their zigsaw. A total of 46 players have been retained by the ten IPL franchises and the other players will now be heading for the auction.

The mega auction will witness a plethora of big names under the hammer, as Indian stars such as Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami are among the players who will appear in the auction.
As the IPL tagged a maximum of six retained players per team, the teams who haven't used their full quota of retentions will have a chance to bring back some of their old players through the Right to Match (RTM) card.
A Right to Match (RTM) card can be used by a franchise to match the bid of a team for a player who was released by them. The teams can use the RTM cards only if they leave out slots from their maximum six retentions. (eg: 5 Retentions, 1 RTM; 4 Retentions, 2 RTMs)
The RTM rule has been changed in the IPL 2025 as well. Previously, a team could match the winning bid and acquire the player at the same price. In the IPL 2025 mega auction, after the usage of the RTM card by the old franchise, the team with the winning bid will be asked if they want to raise the value. If the old franchise matches the newly-risen value (if opted by the bidding team), then only they can buy back their player.
