IPL Auction 2025: How much KKR paid for Quinton de Kock at Mega Event?

South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock has been snapped up by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 3.6 crore in the IPL mega auction 2025.

Known for his explosive opening batting and sharp glovework, de Kock was expected to ignite a fierce bidding war, but the competition for him remained relatively subdued.

Released by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the auction, de Kock entered the bidding at a base price of INR 2 crore. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opened the bidding, quickly joined by Mumbai Indians (MI) and KKR. Despite being a former Mumbai player, MI pulled out at INR 3.4 crore, allowing KKR to secure the South African star for what many consider a bargain deal.

IPL Mega Auction 2025: Quinton de Kock's IPL Career

Quinton de Kock's IPL career has been a tale of highs and lows. The left-handed batter made his debut in 2013 with Sunrisers Hyderabad but had an underwhelming start, scoring just six runs across three games. Released after one season, de Kock signed for the Delhi franchise. While his initial years with the franchise were inconsistent, de Kock lit up the 2016 season with a standout performance, scoring 445 runs, including a brilliant century.

De Kock's next stop was Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2018, where he struggled to find form, scoring 201 runs in eight games. However, his fortunes changed dramatically when Mumbai Indians (MI) signed him in 2019.

In Mumbai's colors, de Kock was a revelation. He scored over 500 runs in both 2019 and 2020, playing a pivotal role in the team's consecutive IPL title victories. His consistency at the top of the order and ability to dominate the powerplay became hallmarks of his game. Despite his success, Mumbai released him before the 2022 mega auction.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) acquired de Kock for INR 6.75 crore in 2022. His first season with LSG was remarkable, as he amassed 508 runs in 15 matches, highlighted by a stunning unbeaten 140 against Kolkata Knight Riders. However, the subsequent seasons were less fruitful.

In 2023, de Kock featured in only four matches, managing 143 runs. The 2024 season saw him score 250 runs in 11 matches—a performance that fell short of expectations, leading to his release ahead of the 2025 auction.
