Marco Jansen, the 24-year-old South African all-rounder signed by the Punjab Kings for a price of Rs. 7 crore. On the second day of the auction, after the completion of the auction of the first three sets of players, Jansen emerged as the most expensive buy of that day.
PBKS entered the second day of the auction with a purse remaining of Rs. 23.50 crore and with three RTM cards left after spending heavily on the first day. On the other hand, the South African youngster entered the auction with a base price of Rs. 1.25 crores. After a brief bidding war between MI and PBKS, GT joined in and the last two continued the battle. At last, Punjab got the last laugh.

Marco Jansen is a highly skilled all-rounder known for his left-arm pace bowling and batting capabilities. As a bowler, Jansen uses his tall stature to generate bounce and movement, especially on pitches that offer assistance to seamers. His ability to swing the ball both ways at a decent pace makes him a potent threat, particularly with the new ball. Jansen's variations, including slower deliveries and yorkers, are equally effective in the death overs.
With the bat, Jansen is a dynamic lower-order hitter capable of turning games with his aggressive approach. He can deliver big hits in crunch moments or stabilise the innings when needed. His versatility is further enhanced by his sharp fielding skills, making him a complete package for T20 cricket and a game-changer in high-stakes matches.
Despite making his debut in 2021, till now he has very limited exposure in IPL, playing only a few matches in each season. However, he has 20 wickets already in 21 IPL matches.
Though Jansen has yet to prove himself in IPL to claim himself as a potential match-winner he has a long way to go. But keeping in mind the age and potential he has, the PBKS’s investment in him should be considered a great deal, especially as a long-term investment and the price they had to pay is certainly considered a great deal.
