The English wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt got signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru as their second buy for a hefty amount of Rs. 11.50 crore. The 28-year-old right-handed batter was released by the defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the IPL 2025 auction and entered the mega auction with a base price of Rs. 2.00 crores.

After a prolonged battle with his former team, KKR, RCB had the last laugh as they signed their first wicketkeeper for the next IPL season.

Phil Salt embodies the modern T20 opener's aggressive mindset, renowned for his fearless batting from the start of the innings. He is known for destructive batting at powerplay, combining raw power with innovative stroke play to consistently score at a rapid rate. His ability to hit through both sides of the wicket, particularly strong against pace bowling, makes him unpredictable for opponent bowlers.

Salt's approach isn't merely about brute force; he possesses excellent hand-eye coordination and the technical skill to adjust to different surfaces. His batting tempo rarely wavers regardless of wickets falling around him, making him a particularly valuable asset in high-pressure run chases. Salt was first signed by DC in 2023 and played nine matches with the franchise, scoring 218 runs. In 2024 Salt got the opportunity to play in IPL for KKR as Jason Roy got injured and KKR needed a replacement. However, Salt played a crucial part for the Knights on their journey to the title, by scoring 435 runs in 12 matches.
