The two-day IPL mega auction saga concluded with ten franchises battling to assemble their dream teams, pushing the auction drama to reach a new height. All the teams tried their best to build a balanced squad by acquiring a mix of established stars and emerging talents.
In a strategic move during the IPL 2025 mega auction, Kolkata Knight Riders have re-signed 36-year-old veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane. Acquired for Rs. 1.75 crores, Rahane's return brings a wealth of experience and tactical expertise to a team who were seeking experienced top-order batters in the mega auction.

With Shreyas Iyer's departure creating a leadership vacuum, KKR CEO Venky Mysore has dropped a hint about Rahane's potential captaincy. In an interview, Mysore emphasized the need for careful deliberation, stating that the team's think tank will collectively evaluate the leadership options.
Mysore said, “To be honest, we have to sit down and take stock. Sometimes what happens is, after you’ve done all of these things, you just have to sit down, reflect, and look at the whole thing. There are stakeholders and parts of the think tank won’t be here. So, we’ll all sit down and have a proper chat about that, and I’m sure a proper decision will be made.”
In his IPL career, Rahane scored a total of 4642 runs in 185 matches with an average of 30.14. He also made two tons in the IPL. Rahane's previous stint with KKR in IPL 2022 saw him scoring 133 runs across seven matches, with a highest score of 44. However, this time, the seasoned campaigner appears poised to make a more substantial impact. His calm demeanour and strategic prowess could prove instrumental in guiding KKR's younger talents and reinforcing the team's batting lineup.
Whether as a senior player or potential captain, with these potential roles, Rahane could be the X-factor that propels the Knight towards IPL glory in the 2025 season.
The anticipation builds as cricket enthusiasts eagerly await Rahane's renewed journey with KKR, hoping his return will help the champions maintain their hold over the title for the upcoming seasons.
