Kolkata Knight Riders are heading into the IPL 2025 mega auction with renewed vigour after their victorious campaign in IPL 2024.
The Knight Riders ended a ten-year wait for the silverware as they won their 3rd IPL title.

The previous auction saw KKR breaking the bank for Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who became the most expensive player in IPL's history after a whopping Rs 24.75 crore acquisition.
KKR, one of the most iconic franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL), have made several high-profile and expensive buys during IPL auctions over the years. These purchases reflect their strategy of building a competitive squad by investing in marquee players. Here's a look at some of their most expensive buys:
| Player Name | Country | Auction Price (INR) | Year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mitchell Starc | Australia | Rs 24.75 crore | 2024 |
| Pat Cummins | Australia | Rs 15.50 crore | 2020 |
| Shreyas Iyer | India | Rs 12.25 crore | 2022 |
| Gautam Gambhir | India | Rs 11.04 crore | 2011 |
| Yusuf Pathan | India | Rs 9.66 crore | 2011 |
| Chris Lynn | Australia | Rs 9.60 crore | 2018 |
| Mitchell Starc | Australia | Rs 9.40 crore | 2018 |
| Nitish Rana | India | Rs 8.00 crore | 2022 |
| Dinesh Karthik | India | Rs 7.40 crore | 2018 |
| Pat Cummins | Australia | Rs 7.25 crore | 2022 |
Starc became the most expensive player in IPL history during the 2024 auction, smashing previous records. Known for his lethal left-arm pace and ability to swing the ball, Starc was seen as a vital addition to KKR's bowling arsenal. Before Starc, his fellow compatriot Pat Cummins was the biggest buy for KKR, when they signed him in IPL 2020.
KKR brought in Shreyas Iyer as a captaincy prospect in IPL 2022 and that paid off brilliantly for them. Before that in the IPL 2011 auction, the Knight Riders made two gigantic deals, which saw Gautam Gambhir and Yusuf Pathan arrive at the franchise. The duo won two IPL titles at KKR, and Gambhir also mentored them in the 3rd title in 2024.
As the Knight Riders enter the IPL 2025 mega auction, they have retained six players of their victorious IPL 2024 season. Rinku Singh is their biggest retention at Rs 13 crore, while Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy have been kept at Rs 12 crore each. Ramandeep Singh and Harshit Rana were their uncapped retentions, both at Rs 4 crore.
With KKR entering the auction with Rs 51 crore, they may not be able to break the bank for a solitary player. But there can be one or two players who can breach the top ten list and make their entry.
