The IPL Auction 2025 began at the Abadi Al-Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, at 3:30 PM IST (1:00 PM Local Time) on Sunday (November 24). The auction continued on November 24 and 25, 2024, offering franchises a chance to fill 204 available slots, including 70 for overseas players.
The first day of the mega auction saw some record buys in IPL history. Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player ever as the Lucknow Super Giants bought the wicketkeeper-batter for a humongous amount of Rs. 27 crores. He broke the record of the former KKR captain Shreyas Iyer, who was just signed by PBKS for a price of Rs. 26.75 crores. Venkatesh Iyer was the third highest buy, as he was bought back by KKR for Rs. 23.75 crores.

Over those two days, the mega auction featured a total of 574 players, out of which 330 were uncapped players. The auctioneer, Mallika Sagar, called a total of 84 cricketers on Sunday, and 38 uncapped players were present on the first day of the auction. Out of the 330 uncapped players, 318 were Indian, while the other 12 were uncapped overseas players. This list also included four players from associate countries.
The Indian uncapped players represented a significant portion of the auction pool, showcasing talent from domestic tournaments such as the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and IPL academies. Many young players, including under-19 stars, attracted bidding wars.
The overseas uncapped players consisted of a smaller pool of 12 players, featuring promising talent from associate nations and other cricket-playing countries. This list included players who had performed well in different leagues like The Hundred, BBL, and CPL.
There were two categories of base prices for the uncapped players: Rs. 30 lakhs and Rs. 50 lakhs. The majority of uncapped players had set a base price in the lower category, starting from Rs. 30 lakh, ensuring affordability for teams looking for emerging talent. Among the many already proven players in the uncapped pool, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 13-year-old from India, was the youngest uncapped player in the auction pool. There will be many proven IPL players also up for grabs.
Atharva Taide was the first uncapped player sold at the IPL 2025 mega auction as SRH roped him in for Rs 30 lakh.
