IPL Auction 2025: Who will be KKR Targets on Day 2 of Mega Event? Kolkata Knight Riders Squad Requirements, Key Focus

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) entered the IPL 2025 Mega Auction with a restricted purse after retaining six core players from their squad.

Despite the financial constraint, KKR made some big moves on Day 1, surprising many with their bold strategies. With one of the smallest budgets heading into Day 2, the franchise still has key gaps to fill as they aim to assemble a championship-winning squad.

KKR Buys of IPL Mega Auction Day 1

KKR began the auction with limited funds but showed they were not afraid to take risks. Their biggest coup was the return of Venkatesh Iyer, who fetched a jaw-dropping Rs 23.75 crore.

In addition to Iyer, KKR brought in Anrich Nortje for Rs 6.5 crore, solidifying their pace attack with a world-class option. Nortje's arrival addresses one of KKR's long-standing needs for a frontline overseas pacer. The team also secured a mix of emerging and experienced players, including Angkrish Raghuvanshi (Rs 3 Cr), Mayank Markande (Rs 30 lakh) and Vaibhav Arora (Rs 1.8 cr).

South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock has also been roped in who will provide a lot of strength to their batting and is a potent keeping option.

What do KKR require on Day 2 of IPL 2025 Mega Auction?

The Knight Riders will head into the auction with a purse of Rs 10.05 crore, and crucially, they still need to buy three foreign players and probably a few decent Indian players.

Which key Areas KKR need to Address?

Heading into the second day, KKR's focus will be on addressing several critical areas. The Knight Riders have 13 players with five overseas acquisitions, but still, a few slots need to be filled.

  • An Overseas Pacer
  • A couple of Indian Pacer (One Uncapped probably)
  • A potential Captain?
  • A Middle Order Batter
  • Overseas All-Rounder (Preferably strong with the Bat)
  • Indian Wicketkeeper

IPL 2025 Auction: Which Players KKR can eye on Day 2 of the Mega Event?

Nitish Rana (Middle Order Batter)

Nitish Rana, a former KKR player, could be a perfect fit to solidify the middle order. Known for his aggressive batting and experience in high-pressure situations, Rana can play a crucial role as a floater in the batting lineup. His familiarity with KKR's culture and conditions makes him an ideal candidate.

Mustafizur Rahman (Overseas Pacer)

As a backup for Anrich Nortje, KKR could look at Mustafizur Rahman, the Bangladesh pacer known for his ability to bowl in the death overs. His variations and left-arm angle provide a unique option to complement the existing pace attack.

Sarfaraz Khan (Indian Batter)

Sarfaraz Khan is a dynamic middle-order option who can provide stability and fireworks as needed. His ability to accelerate the scoring in the death overs makes him a strong candidate for KKR's middle-order reinforcement.

Sakib Hussain (Emerging Indian Pacer)

Sakib Hussain, a promising young bowler making waves in domestic cricket, is an exciting prospect for KKR. His raw pace and ability to swing the ball make him a potential backup to Vaibhav Arora and a long-term investment for the team. KKR will surely eye to re-sign the young Bihar bowler.

Rovman Powell (Overseas All-Rounder)

If budget allows, KKR could consider Rovman Powell as a finisher who can take games away in the last few overs. His ability to clear the ropes and provide occasional overs of medium pace could add versatility to the side.

Ishant Sharma (Indian Pacer)

KKR can eye someone like Ishant Sharma, who can be a guiding force for them. The veteran India pacer has been a stalwart of the game and KKR can reinstate him back in the team. Ishant started his IPL career with the Knights in 2008 and this can be a fruitful homecoming.

Other Options

With KKR requiring an Indian wicketkeeper as well, they may eye for someone like Kerala's Mohammad Azharuddeen. Also they may aim to re-sign KS Bharat to the team. For uncapped Indian batting options, the Knight Riders can go for various players such as Sachin Baby, Shaik Rasheed or Ricky Bhui.
