IPL auction: Second day to revolve around discarded big names

The second day of the IPL auction to seal the league fate of Chris Gayle, Lasith Malinga etc

By Unnikrishnan
K Gowtham

Bengaluru, January 28: On the second day of the IPL auction Shabaz Nadeem became the first player to be sold as Delhi Daredevils beat the bid of Royal Challengers Bangalore to bag him for Rs 3.2 crore.

K Gowtham, the Karnataka, spinener who had a good domestic season, went to Rajasthan Royals for Rs 6.20 crore.

M Ashwin to RCB for Rs 2.20 crore

Hard hitting West Indian batsman Evin Lewis to Mumbai for Rs 3.80 crore.

England ODI skipper Eoin Morgan remains unsold. IPL dreams over for now.

Shaun Marsh, an IPL veteran and one with pretty good record for Kings XI, remains unsold.

Washington Sundar, the TN all-rounder, went to RCB for Rs 3.2 crore.

Chris Gayle

RCB use their one remaining RTM to retain Pawan Negi for Rs 1 crore. It means no possible bid for Chris Gayle.

Ben Cutting goes to Mumbai Indians but NZ all-rounder Corey Anderson and his Aussie counterpart Moises Henriques remain unsold.

Dhawal Kulkarni to remain wth RR for Rs 75 lakh via RTM

Mohit Sharma to remain with Kings XI for Rs 2.4 crore via RTM

R Vinay Kumar, the Karnataka skipper, goes to KKR for base price for Rs 1 crore.

Pacer Mohammad Siraj will play for RCB at Rs 2.6 crore

Nathan Coulter-Nile to RCB for R 2.2 crore

Jayadev Unadkat after a heavy bidding goes to RAJASTHAN for Rs 11.5 crore. BIGGEST BUY OF THE DAY AND 2ND BIGGEST BUY OF THE AUCTION

The first day of the IPL auction saw some big names making bagful of money, some big names falling by the wayside and some uncapped players mining gold.

As the IPL auction enters the second day on Sunday (January 28), the interesting points will be that whether some those big players like Chris Gayle, Lasith Malinga, Hashim Amla or M Vijay find some takers or will they be banished to the memory fields of the IPL.

Lasith Malinga

If not it will be a sad moment to see Gayle, the highest sixer hitter in the IPL, and Malinga, the highest wicket taker in the IPL, walking away without one final flourish.

There are some more exciting names in the pool - both in capped and uncapped sections - and the franchises may go after them.

But you will not see deals running into the high crores because the franchises have limited purse after the big spending the previous day. The franchises will also try to fill the remaining blanks in the team positions, buying players suited to their needs from the remaining available pool.
