Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Lucknow Super Giants (RCB) by 6 wickets in a thrilling run-chase at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday. Batting first, LSG put up 227/3 in 20 overs before Bengaluru chased down the target in 18.4 overs with 8 balls to spare.
RCB stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma showed tremendous grit under pressure as his unbeaten 33-ball 85 helped RCB chase down the target of 228 against LSG.
RCB seized control when Jitesh Sharma and Mayank Agarwal came together at 123/4 with the required rate soaring. Under pressure, Sharma led boldly in Patidar's absence, smashing a 22-ball fifty. A turning point came when he was dismissed on 49 but reprieved by a back-foot no-ball. Agarwal's smart strokeplay and rotation complemented Sharma's aggression as the pair dismantled LSG's bowling in the death overs, steering RCB past the target with ease.
Not many are talking about it but Mayank Agarwal's composed innings of 41 off 23, which saw him play clever strokes and his rotational approach along with the partnership with Jitesh Sharma turned the tide in RCB's favour.
After RCB's 6-wicket win, the IPL 2025 standings are now confirmed. Punjab Kings finished at the top ahead of RCB via NRR as both teams end league stage with 19 points. At third is Gujarat Titans with 18 points and Mumbai Indians occupy the 4th spot with 16 points.
As the teams are aware of their standings, Punjab will take on RCB in Qualifier 1 on 29th May, while Gujarat will take on Mumbai on 30th May in the Eliminator. Qualifier 2 is scheduled for 1st June.
Rishabh Pant didn't have the best of IPL 2025 as the 27 crore enlisted player was below 200 runs till the last match of the season. He did get a century against RCB (118 off 61) but it was not enough for LSG to end the season on a positive note as Bengaluru won the match by 6 wickets.
