IPL Discipline in Focus as BCCI Reviews Rajasthan Royals Violations
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has indicated that additional action could be taken against teams violating conduct norms during IPL 2026, following multiple controversies involving Rajasthan Royals.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board is reviewing its protocols and considering further measures to maintain discipline and uphold the league's image.

"We are exploring some other options about how to bring the teams which are violating the norms," Saikia said while speaking on the sidelines of India's squad announcement for the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 in Mumbai.
Rajasthan Royals incidents prompt stricter monitoring from BCCI
Rajasthan Royals found themselves under scrutiny twice during the ongoing IPL season, triggering disciplinary action from the board.
The first incident involved team manager Ravinder Singh Bhinder, who was seen using a mobile phone near the dugout during a match - a breach of IPL anti-corruption protocols that strictly prohibit phone usage in restricted areas.
Bhinder later apologised to the anti-corruption unit, stating the breach was inadvertent. He was subsequently fined INR 1 lakh for the violation.
In a separate incident, Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag was caught vaping in the dressing room during a match against Punjab Kings in New Chandigarh.
Parag was fined 25 percent of his match fees and handed one demerit point following the incident.
BCCI reviewing IPL team conduct protocols
While fines have already been issued for both incidents, the BCCI is now evaluating whether further action is required at the team level.
Saikia stressed that maintaining discipline is not limited to individual players or staff members but applies to entire franchises.
"It is not just players or officials. As a team they have to maintain some decorum so that the image of the IPL is never adversely affected. To ensure that we have to take a call and we will be taking some action," he said.
However, the BCCI secretary did not specify what additional sanctions could be imposed or whether Rajasthan Royals specifically would face further penalties.
No legal update yet regarding vaping incident involving Riyan Parag
Questions were also raised about possible legal consequences for the vaping incident, as e-cigarettes are banned in India under national regulations.
However, Saikia confirmed that the BCCI has not received any official communication from local authorities regarding the matter.
The vaping incident occurred during Rajasthan Royals' match against Punjab Kings in New Chandigarh, but there has been no update from Punjab Police so far.
